Some pics of today's Velika planina--beautiful in all seasons. Planina offered beautiful views, many visitors, but Velika planina on New Year's day, without snow. We wish all hikers safe step wherever you go and nice greeting and much luck in year that just started.

Anyone been this week to Mali or Velika planina? What are driving conditions like for car on road through Kranjski rak to parking at quarry? lp velik nasmehnasmeh

Road gritted to "parking at quarry" and normally drivable without chains. Yesterday went by bike to Domžalski without problem.

No problem Zlatica, happy to help. I'm up there almost every day, so,.. Maybe I should mention that the trail from Stahovice past Pasje peči is ok only up to Mickina bajta or to the start of Pasje, crossing them is icy in places and hiking crampons won't hurt.nasmehOn the planina you can walk without crampons.

@Primoza I just got back from Velika Planina via Primoza, and still managed quite well with running La Sportiva Ultra Raptor GTX and without crampons. True, I had Salomon running gaiters just in case. For the wind the Montane Minimus windbreaker was very handy, otherwise quite lightly dressed underneath. Temperature wasn't really low. My Garmin thermometer showed only -1.

Today up via Rigelj, descent to Planina Dol and down Dolski Graben to the valley.
It was quite wintery, especially the wind blew hard.

The problem is some are dressed in jackets not suitable for wind. Then the felt cold is, of course, -20. My mentioned windbreaker holds the wind well and underneath I can be less dressed, I don't feel cold at all and consequently less sweaty than with a thick jacket. I have a reserve in the backpack of course.

Today Velika planina sparkled and shone in all its beauty. First "real" snow this winter covered it well. Since a nice day was forecasted, I couldn't miss it! Earlier, still in the dark, I set off from Stahovica. Snow starts just below Mickina bajta, walking was completely normal. Also over Pasje peči just a few cm and walking completely normal. Right at Pasje peči Grintovec and neighbors glowed in the first sun. Real winter view of the plateau opens when one steps onto the flat slightly below the edge of Mala planina. Sky was cloudless blue, snow full of crystals... One can only admire. And photograph. Yes, this winter wasn't generous with snow and it's good to feast our eyes on such scenes. Pity that most hikers "can't afford" such a day.
