In autumn, my yearly Karst wandering and truffle admiring was taken away pre-corona. Now crocuses on Velika Planina were almost blown away by corona. But today's morning succeeded for us. Gorgeous sunny weather, clouds racing and enlivened the views. From Jelšev konfin to Bukovec top, to the junction of Gojska, Velika and Mala planina. What's nicer than wandering the pasture, on flowering meadows - crocuses, daffodils, fescue, alpine bell... Gorgeous views, from Kamniks all to Golte, Veliki vrh, Raduha. Jump to Marija Snežna, then it became heavily clouded. Sun in the valley, then April weather in May, even hail...

Today's morning on VP was not at all virus-tinted. A nice sunny day was used by many hikers for a Planina visit. Most from Kranjski rak or Jelšev konfin, from Stahovica side we were in the minority, as I overtook only four people in 1.18h. No snow anywhere long ago, even to view primroses one has to make an effort, @lili has nicely captured them. Huts are of course still all officially closed, but it will be better from Monday. I also made some shots with the mobile.

Today Velika Planina completely different. Worse weather, toll collection. In conversation with officials we learned hikers complain about the price.
Our comment to the ranger service present that they should have charged this 10 years ago. Some get angry, we admit it was needed long ago. Best solution would be a barrier.

And for whom VP from cable car, Stahovica, Krivčevo or Kranjski rak is too much, go to Šmarna gora or Ljubljana Castle
For older people and small kids there's cable car, and car won't get dusty.

I hope they'll also manage to stop in time and charge those car adventurers who drive right to the plateau (Zeleni rob). Plateau should be for recreation and nature enjoyment not enforcing "valley standards" up there. From parking some cents could go to at least partial reforestation - at least with brush. In few years too many trees and brush removed. Soon Velika Planina backdrop only meadows and cows

From @jprim comment it seems parking in 2020 still collected by hand. Am I wrong?
Otherwise still better than those meters like in Planica. At least three years ago, when as camper you need 12 EUR in coins in wallet. No change of course.

My opinion: if someone goes to the mountains, let them walk nicely, not drive to the top by car. Velika Planina is not some high peak. Exception for hut owners on Velika Planina. For those who can't, the gondola is available.
Same at Kamniško sedlo where some drive practically to Pastirci. Let them go to Šmarna gora or Krim if they have no fitness for higher or try a bit, build fitness first, then to the mountains.

Those who wanted to understand what @iUnknown was talking about, and even more those who recognized themselves in his writing. And I'd add the same about driving from Kamniška Bistrica to V Koncu or the freight cableway, whoever can't handle another half hour of warm-up or cool-down at the end should just choose a shorter tour. This driving with cars everywhere has already crossed all bounds of good taste anyway. Then you see all sorts of specimens rolling from e.g. Planina Jezero to Sedmerih. Of course, if 3/4 of the way was done by car.

Exactly! This "driving" as high as possible has little to do with mountaineering. One such example are Kofce, where they drive to 20 min from the hut just to take pics with struklji. Yeah, why would anyone walk three hours up there....

Not always like that; I really drove there (165km one way). Then we hiked the whole ridge from V Vrh to K Turn and back. For a day tour I think that's enough

As I say, if fitness is good such a tour can be done from the valley too. Tested. But need to get up a bit earlier. If no fitness there are plenty other options.

Well, no need to moralize. In general starting points in Slovenian hills are much lower than in more developed Alpine areas...
