I went for the first time on this route and for the first time to the Altar summit. A random hiker was helpful, who with my mate properly pushed us all the way to the Altar top.

Today on Altar. Weather fantastic. Snow starts a bit below bivouac II. It's softish south-facing, but when you reach the wall creaky snow starts. Exit from gully right below summit a bit tricky. Snow on ridge is powder.

On Sunday to Altar from Gozd Martuljek, through Kačji jezik. Up to Three larches dry or icy, further snow, not much. But conditions top-notch - super creaky snow. Also from notch to summit no issues. If no bad inversion it will probably stay like that for a while. So worth going there. Veliki Oltar skozi Kačji jezik

Rupo, what about the approach to the connecting ridgelet between Oltar and VMP? I always approach it from Dnine.

If the snow is good it can be ok. If there's no snow you can't avoid some jamming. Nothing too hard though. Different story from VMP to VO. Matej and I had excellent conditions even in May.

From Dnine to Veliki Oltar it was tracked on Sunday.

Over Kačji jezik, thus to the VMP - VO ridge conditions are super squeaky crust. Slope also over 50 deg. Further along the ridge some details are a bit more exposed than in the wall. Definitely count on going down the same way if you don't have a 2nd car in Vrata and that there's occasionally lots of air under your feet. Option is also the icefall starting from the cirque (scree) straight up. Some three pitches are surely 60 deg. that would make the tour already awesome. Conditions are really excellent, never sink over ankle and only the last 2m below the ridge is all superrrrrrrrrrr. Two ice axes mandatory. Below 3 larches turn right into ice (first two pics), because everything else is really tedious up and even more down. This is surely among my top 3 winter tours. The only track leading from Dnine to Oltar on Sunday was from a chamois. Towards VMP the ridge is really interesting

Yeah, not everything is as easy as it sometimes reads and looks on forums. Accidents in the mountains 6.12.2016 16:20 KRANJSKA GORA At 16:21 three climbers got stuck on Visoka Martuljska Ponca in the municipality of Kranjska Gora in the wall. Mountain rescuers from GRS Kranjska Gora station and the Slovenian Army helicopter intervened, which rescued the climbers from difficult terrain and transported them to the valley in the evening hours. The climbers were not injured but were partially hypothermic.

@gj: Why worry, we have free helicopter and volunteer mountain rescuers in Slovenia.

The army has its own helicopter And it uses it for free within civil protection.

Someone has to pay for it, the leaders surely not, but the money is taken from the RS budget.

@lg. It was more meant as a warning. Regarding rescue, it can happen to anyone, also to me and you. Sometimes a person tests himself and if he doesn't know where the limit is, he gets it quickly on the ass. In mountains it's like that, it can end with loss of life. Nice greetings. Good luck.

My intent was different, if someone ends up in mountains in trouble, let him call GRS without hesitation. Why draw money from budget only public servants and other main leeches.

Matej, it's not necessary that you'll "draw", maybe they'll "draw" from your pocket if not injured and just in "trouble". I wonder why with good ascents often attached accident data unrelated to these ascents. Enough if written these are ascents requiring alpinistic skills, which not always good to acquire alone without training.
