Via Ferrata Spodnji Plot

Namely, as far as I know, none of the via ferratas we're talking about here lead to a mountain. These via ferratas are an end in themselves, intended for gymnastics, fitness. That's totally fine, nothing wrong, OK? So I don't know why those who use them feel threatened. I don't doubt that some of you go to serious mountains and use via ferratas as some additional challenge, training, whatever. Super! But don't mislead those who don't combine it, thinking that having climbed a via ferrata means they've passed the alpinism exam!

more or less we all agree on the simple truth: via ferratas brought new options for sports activities in nature; our writings are just a warning to those not "at home" in the hills, that even on via ferratas extra knowledge is often useful, let alone on official secured mountain hikes or even harder (mountaineering) tours... people just need to realize (before too many accidents in the hills) that with climbed via ferratas (yet) you don't have enough knowledge and experience to go anywhere... so that no one e.g. just attacks the Škrnatarica-Dovški križ ridge or something even airier nearby nasmeh

knowledge is never too much.. equipment too (but then the backpack is soon too heavy for many - that's why I always walk so slowly nasmeh )

SamoK...., the cable is stretched across the wall, not by the pub counter, the wall usually belongs to some mountain and I think it's some activity and branch in mountaineering... otherwise many Dolomite via ferratas and also Austrian ones lead to the very top of some mountain!!!

I agree with Primož!
On the other hand, every novelty always brings some discontent and some approval, over the years the matter settles.
It's similar with bivouacs (modernly shaped),
even Aljaž long ago had similar problems nasmeh

"dprapr Yes, some 100-year-old novelty..."
... here we are talking from the first post about SPORT VIA FERRATA!
P.S. if giving link up there, it would be good next time at least to read to the end what it says!

I think the problem lies more in that some felt superior to all other "hikers" by moving over those enviable verticals, pumping their ego as the chosen elite. Now that we have ferratas allowing wider groups on such airy paths, they feel threatened and must constantly stress that this isn't climbing at all and they are still the only real mountain tough guys velik nasmeh Of course this sheds more light on how some go to mountains for weird reasons than on ethical issues etc. Go up, do what makes you happy.

How nice to read so many comments for just one ferrata, a real doctorate.

@natasa si:

"One would in jest say that you are so strong in the jaw that you could chew this ferrata to the top, no arm strength needed or rope or gloves and magnesia (heck what a combo)...".

That was by far the best comment! Bravissimo!

Nataša.si, this is written with such fire that at the end of the first superficial reading I didn't know at all if you're for ferratas or against. After the second in-depth reading I saw you hit the essence of these comments and it's not just talk. Bravo!

Primoza, he who waits gets it. But that movie fantasy (crocs if I got it right) we won't get. That would be bye-bye brains!

I did some research on how the term "ferata" develops in Europe... It seemed the Austrians lead, but those Spaniards are really nuts... compare this ferrata Feliz Navidad with ferrata Spodnji plot ... in places such ferrata seems a real adrenaline park where surprisingly suddenly classic sport climbing elements appear again

SamoK - "Railway, basically."
There you missed the mark. Even mountain choughs would laugh at me if I said I went over the south wall of Spodnji Plot on a railway.

Today's nice sunny weather lured us to Zelenica. Almost randomly, some "pensioners" gathered who have no time. For some, climbing the left easier part was the first time. Not much, but they repeated the exercise. I myself climbed the right - harder branch as per old habit and descended the easier one. Rock dry in the sun (the wall is currently still in the sun the whole morning) and pleasantly warm. Approach to Zelenica in shade and somewhat cooler.

Today I just went alone on a trip, Tinky still a bit under the weather, Matej wandering elsewhere. Given the weather conditions after lunch I drive to Ljubelj, towards Zelenica and to check Spodnji Plot via ferrata. Rock was completely dry, some sun at moments and no wind. On the way back of course I stop at the hut, drink coffee and chat a bit with the keeper.

I also tested this ferrata today and can say it's quite demanding and shorter than expected, still need quite some arm strength. Didn't have climbing shoes and think they can ease ascent a bit, whoever relies more on shoes than hands better not go or choose left branch I returned on...that is incomparably easier...nasmeh
