Well, on Sunday afternoon we were also at Sv. Višarje (mainly because of the mass) and around three it was cloudy everywhere and poorer views. After mass the sun started to show and when we were returning to Slovenia around five, the previously hidden peaks were already nicely visible - Mangart, Jalovec, later also Triglav.

The Stone Hunter is our favorite winter tour, with skis or without. But it was interesting to visit it also in summer. Mainly we wanted to take our younger daughter up, who loves wide views from the summits. And from this summit there is something to see!!! And since it's vacation time, we went up "on vacation" and to the Holy Višarje in the fresh morning we "took" with modern technology mežikanje... Yesterday was the right day for sightseeing... not too hot, especially "washed" by night storms, so you could see far and even farther... nasmeh
Classic postcard view from Svetih Višarij... a fresh morning awaited us up there...1
Path to the Stone Hunter...2
...and along the path full of blooming gentians...3
Beautiful tarn V Klobuku...4
Tjale, we're going up there...5
Even higher below the summit blooming...bouquet of rocky saxifrage...6

It came to sunbathe on the rocks...8
Only the last gully just below the summit is slightly more demanding...9
At the summit...10
...it rang...11
Insane views...towards Viševi group and Montaž...12
When are we going up there again? :-)))13
There was quite a crowd at the summit...so we escaped to the neighboring little summit...and looked back towards the hunter...14
A beauty...15
Views as far as Špik...Škrlatica...16
One was imitating us... :-)17
So let's get a photo... :-)18
Then back to Višarje...19
We also stepped into the little church, as it was just open...20
...and walked along the Višarje promenade...21
...then treated ourselves to a delicious lunch on Juret's terrace...22
...which has a beautiful view... we were up there...23
Then down to the valley... we by gondola... some like this... :-)24

In Gorizia it was raining in the morning, but we trusted the meteorologists who forecasted sun in the Alps at the Tarvisio end and so it was. This time we drove on the Slovenian side through Bovec, because the Italian motorway is getting more expensive, as you have to pay more than 20 euros for both directions (10.4 + 10.4 eur.), if you drive from Gorizia to Trbiž. The Slovenian route is even more scenic in this period, but in some sections more dangerous because of crazy drivers who press the gas too much. In the mountains it was a real autumn fairy tale, as seen from the pictures. We went to the top of the Stone Hunter, descended towards Zajzera first on an easier ferrata, then on a forest path, but only to the junction, where we took the path towards Višarje. Again a bit up, then a bit flat, a bit down, then again up the road and finally we reached the top of Višarje. The church was still open at four in the afternoon and also two refreshment places, so we quenched our thirst with hot teas, chatted with the friendly caretaker and returned to the valley and then home. Beautiful, beautiful day!nasmeh

My wife and I used our three-day vacation in Kranjska Gora to visit Višarje, Tromeja, Rabelj Lakes and Mangart Lakes. Weather still quite good with winter conditions on the summits.

Hi,
please for information on snow, conditions on the path Višarje Stone Hunter.
Is the path already trodden?
Possible without snowshoes or skis?

Thanks & good luck!
Aleks

From today also possible without snowshoes and skis.
Of course, with appropriate winter gear for the ascent to the summit, although there are nice steps in the gully.
On the pilgrimage path from Žabnica the small additional crampons save you, because the path is as usual quite icy.
(Only, given modern times, I don't know how to define us: either two diligent ones who trampled it, or two rascals making gaps...zmeden)

On Sunday, 4.5.2013, we climbed to the top of Stone Hunter.

The day was gorgeous and we had fantastic views from the top velik nasmeh Snow covers almost the entire pilgrim path, but it's quite firm, also well-trodden so nothing sinks in.
But when we turned onto the path to Stone Hunter, it was no longer trodden. Only one Italian ski tourer was behind us, no other hikers on the path, so we enjoyed the beauties of Stone Hunter alone velik nasmeh The gullies below Stone Hunter are nicely filled and the snow was perfect for ascent/descent on them velik nasmeh

Today on Stone Hunter, start a bit later, so on the return black clouds were already gathering, but still didn't prevent wonderful views. Otherwise path o.k., lots of visitors..nasmeh

By bike from Kranjska Gora through Zajzera to Holy Višarje. The path may be a pilgrimage path but by bike the road is devilishly steep velik nasmeh

Two panoramas, one from the top and one along the path.
Wonderful views velik nasmeh

We just walked up to Višarje from Žabnica directly along the ski slope. Luckily it's still closed for skiing. Snow starts about 1/4 up, above it's about 25cm. Beautiful sunny day, more visible in pictures.

Pilgrim path from Žabnice was icy, from Višarska planina onwards on skis. Track through Krnica to Klobuk was laid, to the very top I did it.

Given the recent snowfall, hikers will have hard time breaking trail to the top.
The path was more snowy in the upper part.1
With skis it went without trouble, without them it would be tough after the last snowfall.2

Igor - how about the ski slope down to the valley, is it officially open or not?

PS don't advertise Elan like that, because they are completely useless for me... zadrega

Enough snow on the ski slope (and a few more cm fell today), just a bit icy in places, but officially it goes down to the valley.
