Start at Zajzera and up to saddle Prašnik then to top of Stone Hunter. Since there were quite a few people I soon continued on ridge, where you need to climb I-II too. At end go to Beraški cross up through scrub down ridge. At end to top Sv.Višarje and back to valley by road.

along the ridge, below the ridge also a path, this initial part is somewhat easier, the remaining part further on harder

Yesterday I took the gondola to Višarje and continued to the Stone Hunter. The path was short and nice. On the mountain mostly Austrians and Slovenes, few Italians. The weather was not as nice as forecast, but most peaks were visible well. On Višarje I ate really excellent lunch.

Stone Hunter, 2071 m - Holy Višarje, 1766 m

Stone Hunter is the highest peak in the rocky ridge of Višarje Heads. The peak got its name from a rocky figure resembling a hunter. Legend tells [that a] wild hunter shot from here towards Holy Višarje and petrified. (from Julian Alps guide). Well, with Dora on Friday early afternoon [we] started on pilgrimage path to two peaks. Near Višarje at junction by chapel turned left and landscape more enchanting due to yellowed larches.....lower were still greener. Well[, we] go on and new surprise..in cirque SNOW. Closer to Hunter more snow on path....one path part probably longest shaded almost icy [and] needed caution. When reached rocks tied Dora [and] left her on snow to rest. Last ascent part rocky with some pegs - mini ferrata. Walked on snow till reached very sunny summit with cross and bell. Enjoyed air[, ]views[, ]freedom[, ]horizons.......................Then carefully back to start junction turned up to Holy Višarje. Church open, pubs officially closed but treated to hot tea. Everywhere working preparing December soon here skiers crowds. Tomorrow procession regardless [of the] weather.

Soon the larches will turn yellow here too.

Magical landscape, of course if the weather is right.... It was on Friday!

Dori enjoyed lying on the snow. She also waited for me down here.

We are here at the top of Višarje, from where the summit we had just reached is visible.

Soon she will be happier, as the owner of the place noticed her, then she opened for us and treated us.

Along the upper trail we return to the pilgrimage path.

I was at Višarje today. I saw skiers heading towards the summit. The path is definitely trampled, whether worn down I don't know..Lp

Up the pilgrimage path which was icy in several sections. Below Višarje I turn left towards the Stone Hunter, it hasn't sunk here yet and someone walked ahead of me to somewhere below Beraš Cross. Further it sank for me but not over knees, I dragged the track further first and only hiker on top. More than 10 touring skiers. After sightseeing I quickly descended the same way, completely snow-covered like a snowman.

Today on the Stone Hunter. From St. Višarje we headed to the summit, from the summit then the southern path under Lastovice towards the Pelarina hut and descent into the Zajzera valley.
From the summit the path is very crumbly, there are some steel cables, lower among the larches a nice mountain path with views of the western Julians.

Also this year, on a beautiful Saturday, for 38th wedding anniversary we go to the Stone Hunter. Larches already getting first autumn colors, atmosphere pleasant for hiking. On the summit she recognizes a user of this portal. Nice chat with her and her friend made our day even nicer.

Oldtimer55, this was so nice to read! We also go to mountains for anniversary often, this year too, one day after you (well, we still lack a few years to yours mežikanje

21.9... Stone Hunter... Beautiful weather attracted many visitors to the mountain and Višarje. Nice to meet some forum acquaintance from Hribi.net in person. Nice path, beautiful views and good company made the trip even better. nasmeh
