Today I walked the path Ukanc - Žagarjev graben (abandoned path) - Vogel - Planina Zadnji Vogel - Ukanc.
The walked path is passable, on the abandoned part the markings are still quite visible, but the path is overgrown in places, yet traceable.

Vogel yesterday. Quite well visited especially from the Bohinj side. On the summit until noon really nice views.

Start at Ravne - some of us gathered, but towards Vogel obviously only we went. Snow starts right after that single secured passage under pl Razor. Up directly through the valley to the intermediate saddle where there are bunkers and from there right to the ridge of Žabijski Kuk. In between it got cloudy (to the west you could see it was lightly snowing) and on the ridge it occasionally blew hard, so decision to go left - to the top of Vogel and down via the western ridge. Conditions for walking good all the time, mostly on the crest, except where you can't avoid the wind-blown snowmežikanje

29.12.2021. "When I had nothing to lose I had everything," wrote Paolo Coelho. We decided for Vogel. From Tolminske Ravne along the mulatjera. And thoughts were on the path ahead from planina Razor. How much snow is there? Has anyone gone and made tracks? We said we'll just turn back if we can't go further. We've been several times already. It was cold on the alpine pasture. The bivouac has been renovated from the inside. And without any trash it's clean and tidy. Tracks were in the snow ahead from the pasture. We followed them. There really is a lot of snow. They led to that gully between Žabijski Kuk and Vogel. But there were also on the usual path where we went two years ago. Then much less snow. The snow held well. It didn't break through. We used winter gear when we got to the steep part. On the saddle everything was decorated. Probably still from the last snowfall. We continued on the winter route. Where the predecessor walked or predecessors. There was quite some steepness. In the last part from the sign to the top, the snow was already breaking through. We were the only hikers that day. On the top and on the path we had beautiful views. Fog in the valley. Up here blue skies. Očak seemed even higher than usual. When after a few hours of hiking on top and dreams come true. You think it's not real but it is when looking at that steep slope to overcome. Descent required quite some caution due to softened snow. But we're used to such conditions. And the icing on the cake was the wonderful sunset when pushing through the forest towards planina Razor on descent. Then still the path along mulatjera to Tolminske Ravne.

Nice pictorial report, Darinka. I think I've traversed that part the least number of times. But on the northern side of the mountain on the day of your hike exactly seventeen years ago a tragedy happened, as a snow avalanche took the life of Dr. Tomaž Vrhovec.

Thanks, lijaneja. I didn't know Tomaž Vrhovec ended so sadly. I was looking up but didn't see anything ready to avalanche. On this winter route Marijan and I went for the first time. Two years ago I remember we went directly to the ridge and top. But then four locals on the way and the decision was easier. Now we were alone and had to follow tracks of predecessors. I assume locals who know the winter route well. It is quite steep. I felt thigh muscles the next day too. As I say, we were surprised already below the top that we managed, a demanding tour.

Darinka, I wouldn't mention colleague's death if it hadn't happened on the same calendar day and same mountain, of course other side. No doubt at all in your safety assessment on the tour.

Darinka, when reading your hike descriptions and looking at pictures I feel like hiking with you. Quite often we do some of your tours too. But must admit I don't reach you even to ankle let alone knees. Wish you HAPPY and healthy year 2022.
