Today (15.1.2018) headed to the top of Vršič and Sovna glava. Parked car at Russian Chapel. Conditions for walking on road good today (snow didn't sink like few days ago). Again wonderful day offering great views. Bit of wind at top but not too bad. No crowds on Vršič. Towards Sovna glava snow didn't sink, on some spots windblown snow very hard and need more caution to avoid slip. Best regards.

A real winter fairytale today on Vršič. The road is drivable to Erjavčeva hut on Vršič. The path to Tičarjev dom is normally walkable, further to the top of Vršič it sinks deeply for hikers (without snowshoes), up to the knees or more in places. Wonderful views, a bit windy. In short, wonderful. Best regards.

Has anyone been up there these days? How far is the road drivable, what are the snow conditions?

Just check the Poštarski dom webcam on Vršič, and it'll all be clear to you.

The road to Erjavčeva hut was normally drivable yesterday. Further without a trail but only to the bend, where there is a huge avalanche that won't melt for some time. Hut open and service of new friendly keepers welcoming.

Even today it was possible to drive by car to the Erjavčeva hut. Higher, past Tičarjev dom and Poštarski dom, new snow up to the knees. From Mojstrovke it rumbled all day eek

On Monday they drove to the last bend ... then there is about 3 m of snow on the bend and further to the top ... before the Erjavčeva hut highest parking is possible

Today, 01.04.2018, it was possible to drive to Erjavčeva, further on foot, as the road was covered by avalanche again.
Yesterday approx. 25 cm of new snow fell.

In the evening they got a directive to close the road until further notice due to avalanche danger. Apparently barrier at Koča na Gozdu. Unofficially it's said closure until just before May holidays.

Today at Vršič - wind, lots of snow, slabs threatening from below Grebenc. Friday they cleared road to top of pass, but over weekend avalanche covered it again, apparently almost buried one hut. For MM I'll wait another two weeks. Road over pass should be drivable only after May Day holidays.

This car was allegedly buried once at Erjavčeva - soon they will be able to tow it, since...

... they were diligently milling the road again today

Beautiful, but very dangerous and demanding

Yesterday, not too early, set off on foot from Koča na Gozdu along old mule track to top of Vršič. Snow a bit crusty on a few cm but still held well with rare postholes on trodden. Above Postarska and other huts buried with meters of wind drifts. Yesterday strong south wind started blowing, moving low bushes. Under Mojstrovka brave ones left signatures around huge avalanche ending past viewpoint stand towards Zg. Trenta. Road blocked by two avalanches and new snow. Snowed-in car at pass waiting for late summer zmeden
