Vrtača pasture from Peričnik... Lots of little paths and turnoffs, not really for a stroll. No more parking before the bridge over Triglavska Bistrica. But there's a nice little path over the first bridge, along the technological path. Peričnik waterfall is very full, water sprays far around. No livestock on Vrtača pasture yet. Benches are already out.nasmeh.

Some of today's photos from the route Mojstrana-Vrtača pasture-Ridge-Votlo Ridge-Vrta Peak-Mojstrana.

Livestock supposedly brought up next week. Weather held out, there were quite a few visitors today despite poor forecast.

The upper two descriptions "tempted" me to go to Vrta Ridge too.
Quite some time passed since my last visit. This time I'll test the hunting path past Peričnik waterfalls.
Hope I find it without problems.
Thanks, Majda, for the route description that partially matches my planned one.

Safe on the paths to all mountain lovers.

Today a shorter trip past Peričnik waterfall to Vrtača pasture. A bit below the upper Peričnik waterfall turned onto unmarked path (turnoff right when we reach short flat before upper waterfall), past natural window (that part past window is quite steep and slippery path, because water flows lightly on path). Soon we reach next junction (go straight up to gravel path). Water flows over path (crossing over footbridge). Further on path that's well traceable, all the time head towards Mojstrana. Very nice path (for me much nicer than marked from Mojstrana), offering nice views. Nice mountaineer's greeting.

Yesterday from Vrata, from Črlovec scree I climbed to Vrtača pasture, continued towards Ridge, but due to quickly developing lenticular clouds went only to Njivice. From Njivice I descended on the "upper path" (as locals call it) to Mali and Veliki Črlovec, where at the Kuk sign I joined the usual path to Kukova Špica.
Path is normally passable, just a bit more caution needed when crossing Mali Črlovec.
Best, Tadej

Loop from Mojstrana past Peričnik and over Vrtaška pasture to Sleme I did yesterday. On the path there are some fallen trees - already right above the upper waterfall and then at least 3 more times in between you need to detour a bit. Above Vrtaška pasture I went straight to Vrtaški vrh, on return also to Votlo (Drobeče?) ridge. Fantastic trip with nice views and plenty of peace.

On Sunday we climbed from Mojstrana to Vrtaška pasture (dry path with some icy sections under leaves) and then crossed forest slopes to grassy slope of snowy Njivice, where very strong wind blew up and forced those ahead to return. We continued ascent in lee of dwarf pines to slope of scenic Vrtaški vrh. More at: https://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/144792/

Yesterday 10.1.2019 on Old path left along Peričnik hunting passages under Gornov Komn (honestly got tangled mežikanje ) Here, when well-made but overgrown path disappears, best is as low as possible above fallen gully right into wide steep primeval forest slope. In dry scree crossed lower and upper PP. Searching passages in already snow-covered dwarf pines and occasional scrambling, it takes me too directly to ridge. In wind-blown "hollow" snow that takes me for 100 m more than half an hour mežikanje. Down nicely trodden but wind-blown and if you miss it, it breaks over knee. Upper PP to Njivce I miss. To hunting path quite icy, there snow stops. Towards Peričnik still some fallen trees on path with already "made" detours. More awkward uphill. January, winter?

Car counter at start of Vrata showed no.169 on return, but I met no one on whole path except chamois.

It was nice day and nice trip.nasmeh

Vrtaška planina in autumn colors. The path is thickly covered with fallen leaves. In the last part of the path the trees have already completely shed their leaves. Wonderful forest colors and beautiful views.big smile

For November 1 there was a good weather forecast, so Mirjam and I decided to visit Vrtaško and Votlo Sleme. We started from Mojstrana at 7 a.m. in slightly foggy weather, the day before it was supposed to snow so we didn't really believe in nice weather. The initial steep ascent somewhat surprised us, as we were still a bit tired from Sunday climbing on Rigljica but in about an hour the steepness eases and the weather clears revealing the Julians in magnificent glory. Peaks protrude from dense cloud fog reaching up to about 1800 m creating the look of a white sea. First we visited Votlo Sleme then via the saddle headed left to Vrtaško Sleme. We wanted to continue along the ridge towards Kukova Špica and ascend to Vrh nad Mužici but abandoned the idea as we wanted to enjoy as long as possible the beautiful weather scene created by fresh snow cold air and sunshine over the Julians. More about the trip let the pictures tell...
This is the weather that awaited us after an hour's ascent from Mojstrana1
yesterday's snow is just a sample and does not hinder the ascent2

our today's goal also appears5
Even Očak rises above the clouds.6

Vrtaški vrh is already behind us.9
The view towards Špik and Martuljški vrhovi is magnificent, as if the misty clouds wanted to seize them.10
Stop at Votli Sleme.11
We are still setting off - to Vrtaško Sleme.12

On the return to the valley we stop at the hut on Vrtaška planina, the weather remained equally gloomy as in the morning during the ascent.15

Conditions on January 4th... winter path to Vrtaško Sleme this time goes directly over Vrtaški vrh. On the traverse along the marked path no tracks are visible. Continuation from the saddle later splits into two trodden variants of the final ascent. Both are icy in places exactly in the steepest parts and unsuitable for microspikes or similar.

Vrtaška planina. The hut is slowly but surely collapsing.1
The only trodden path is directly across Vrtaški vrh, then it is necessary to descend to the saddle to the marked path.2
View from Vrtaški vrh towards Vrtaški and Votli slemenu.3
In the saddle with signposts, where the summer marked path joins. No tracks were visible on it.4
The slopes towards Sleme are gullied, some sections are solidly icy. 5

The return follows the approach direction, so again across Vrtaški vrh.7

As seen from Dovška Baba, up to Vrtaški vrh it's mostly dry, from Njivice onwards there's still quite a bit of snow.

Today I was on the Sleme and also on Vrtaški vrh along the way. On the entire path there's only one small snow patch left, no winter gear needed for it. Right after Vrtaška planina there's some fallen trees on the path, but we bypass them easily. Although the summit isn't among the most popular, I met quite a few hikers on the way.

Oh, and this: both summits now have stamps and I hope they stay there.
