In winter, if there's snow up there, I don't see a problem with the dog on the table, though it's not the most cultured anyway. So it doesn't get hairy up there in summer too. I was surprised when I was at Porezen early spring this year, that the caretaker himself said the dog should come with me to the hut, because it was cold outside, frosty and strong wind was blowing. He lay under the bench by the stove and couldn't be disturbed.

I was still curious what detachment is. This can be found on the net. Nothing about dogs... 1. Detachment (from French détacher) is in military terminology the name for a military unit that is (temporarily) separated from the main armed forces to perform a special task. Source: Slovenian Wikipedia 2. Apparently housewives know it too and perhaps remove mess from the table where the dog sat in this way: http://minet.si/novice/15413 3. Detachment, also expressed as non-attachment, is a state in which a person overcomes his or her attachment to desire for things, people or concepts of the world and thus attains a heightened perspective. @Lunatic: there are also milder measures like pepper spray and even stronger ones (which thank God I've never had to use). Regarding pepper spray (OC) it is harmless to dogs and humans unlike chemical (CS), which can be harmful even to humans. Let me write a "treatise" on defense sprays (popularly also "tear gases", although the term is not quite technically accurate): At the beginning only CS spray was used. This is a weak solution of nerve combat poison, which is banned by the Geneva Convention. But since the Geneva Convention applies only to war and the military, its use for civilian purposes is allowed. So police in many countries use it in police actions to disable criminals (robbers, hostage takers,...) and in some places (even Western countries) also against demonstrators. In countries where defense sprays are legal, they are (in small commercial doses) also sold to individuals. Precisely because of the possible negative effects of CS (a person can even go blind in extreme cases) and resulting lawsuits against police, state and even individuals, pepper spray, which is made on a completely natural basis, has become more widespread lately. This base is Oleoresin Capsicum (OC) or simply "Cayenne pepper", which almost every housewife knows. In principle, you could season a goulash with such a spray for example. As such it is practically harmless to animals as well as when defending against humans. It is increasingly used in police too, a demonstration of which you could see recently when a video was posted on news portals of how police in the USA sprayed demonstrators directly in the eyes with it, which is of course extremely unpleasant. With chemical they couldn't do that. Pepper spray in smaller doses is also sold retail to individuals where it is legal. In addition to safety, the advantage of pepper spray is that it also works on drunk people since unlike chemical it doesn't act through the brain (which is at least partially blocked when drunk) but directly on the respiratory tract, like inhaling pepper, only much worse because it's concentrated. The most concentrated (and effective) are around 10%. Less than 5% I don't recommend. The SHU factor is also important, which should be at least a million. Mine is 11% with SHU factor two million In some European countries (British Isles, Benelux, Scandinavia) and some others they are not legal. In the others mainly yes and of course also in the USA (for a country where guns are freely available it would be strange if they weren't ). For a specific country you need to check before departure (e.g. Google). In alpine countries they are legal, except France (where legislation in this area is a bit unclear), in Germany pepper spray can only be used on animals (so-called Tierabwehrspray).

geppo 20.12.2011 How different we are and in this diversity there should be the charm and not the reason for eternal disputes between people. Shrimps are cute to me. If it were the only free table I'd probably take them off the table, otherwise I'd choose another free one. I wasn't paying attention to the photo of Majina's puppies that they are on the table, but to their appearance in snowy coats.

MajaO no hard feelings from my side, regardless of the written words in various posts. Mistaking the date can happen to anyone. You probably wouldn't even notice it (unless you read your posts multiple times), if someone hadn't pointed it out, like I did. Since you corrected the date in the old post (not writing a new one), I had to explain my comment too. Otherwise my comment would look "stupid". That's all. Have a nice day.

Hi Maja, but I'm still interested in more about white vaseline and peranton gel. My pinscher girl and probably some other "puppy" from other users would use it too. Thanks in advance for the explanation, Saša

For our Luna we use ordinary vaseline from Drogerie Markt, it's a medium-sized plastic yellow container, there's quite a bit inside, and with us it lasts at least half a year. And it's not expensive either...

Thanks Maja for the explanation, I'll get all three and report back to you what changes there are with our hyperactive pinscher girl, who also had an injury years ago i.e. torn cruciate ligaments (we already discussed this). Saša
