To report from our first visit to the Dolomites: prices in June are lower than in July, not to mention August; apartment top, especially for the price, hotel Portavescovo, Arabba, booked half a year in advance.
On the way there and back we did a little road trip, didn't go on the highway and stopped somewhere. Recommend e.g. Innichen and Lago di Dobbiaco. Of all the passes, Falzarego was our favorite, and parking is free there too. Roads excellent, nice asphalt, well-laid bends and serpentines and no nausea problems for me, which usually accompanies me on winding roads. So if someone has similar issues and worries about all those bends in the Dolomites, go bravely! velik nasmeh

We visited Nuvolau from Passo Falzarego past rif. Averau; since we were early (by Italian standards), we avoided the crowds that started only at noon when we were already descending. Super scenic hike, not too demanding for the pup, and not too crowded. Lago Limedes along the marked path near the pass was just the icing on the cake. nasmeh

We conquered Secedo with Gorenjska stubbornness - like true Gorenjci we took the gondola only halfway from Ortisei (mistake, should have taken the gondola from Santa Cristina to Col Raiser!) and stubbornly hiked along the path on the slopes of the ski slope that brought us to the Secedo plateau. We circled over the popular summit and back to the valley, this time all the way on foot, which is 1300 m descent ... We held up well! jezik

On the last free day we also conquered the famous Lago Sorapiss, which has its characteristic color only in the sun. The path is really crowded and a typical mountain hike that many probably take too lightly, judging by the footwear (no one in sandals like with us), walking without backpacks etc. We needed a full 2 hours to the lake. Again recommend early start, due to P at Passo Tre Croci, crowds on the path and heat, since we also ascend on the way back! And take into account all those crowds, encounters, overtaking, waiting, ... Worth the patience nasmeh

Piz Boe, which we saw every day from our balcony, we skipped this time because there are still many snowfields from north and south sides and we didn't risk it. Thanks everyone for the suggestions; so many interesting paths, roads and beauties await us there, we can hardly wait to go again. Recommended!

You probably know it, if not, it might come in handy. In summer heat I warmly recommend the cooling vest, mine loved it. It really helps the dog's soul feel better nasmeh

I know it, but so far there has been no need for it. Last year when he was a puppy, we didn't overdo the walking anyway, especially not in the heat, this year we're hiking more intensively in the mountains. A snow patch or water to cool off comes in handy too, now he already knows how to find shade etc. We avoid the worst heats anyway. A cooling mat awaits him then if needed ... He needs warming vests more in winter, he has no undercoat and fat (hrt after all).

Yesterday's anecdote. During the ascent we made a stop with the dog. I took off the backpack, put the helmet on a convenient stump; I was somehow clumsy and the helmet tipped over and "tok tok tok" started gently rolling down the slope, like in a slow-motion shot. The dog and I watched, the helmet disappeared from before our eyes, still we could hear the even "tok tok tok" sound somewhere lower down. Come on, buddy, let's go see if the helmet is still there - we started searching for passages down the steep scree from tree to tree, after about 10 min on a narrow strip with a bit of fern I spotted something orange - the helmet! When already close, I untied the dog and let it run to it, it understands what's going on, stops at the helmet. I got an idea - if it knows how to carry a ball, will it manage with the helmet? If yes, it will save me some meters on the annoying scree, terrain not exposed, let's try. I told him, "Where is the ball?", the dog became alert, I again "Where is the ball?" The dog's head adds 1 and 1, buddy tries to grab the helmet with its muzzle, doesn't go, pokes with paw to turn it, just enough that the helmet nicely gently again "tok tok tok" starts rolling forward into the unknown and disappears from before our eyes. I called the dog and laughter followed to tears. velik nasmeh

Epilog: a few floors lower we found it again.
