If anyone is interested, it's a miniature German Spitz; it's insensitive to cold and goes with me on many hikes.

But in summer it's very hot for him. Like all long-haired breeds and also Huskies, for example.

Super solution, for me completely unsuitable (bitch has almost 40kg) =). On rocks she's already quite learned to walk (this year first time in mountains), we'll avoid climbing feats anyway.

Yeah, the pic is a bit from afar. This is a mix, half golden retriever and half big black x dad =)
Can't imagine how you could lift her.

I also, without a dog, wouldn't go to the mountains this week. Now to the sea, next week I hope for some cooling and a nice hike in solitude.

Awful to watch how indifferent owners drag dogs into such heat... Recently some Czechs dragged wolfdogs towards Montaž...jezen

Let me tell you how surprised I was on Kriška gora this month when it was quite hot. Two hikers came to the hut bringing a Bernese Mountain Dog and in my mind I scolded the irresponsible owners. They gave the dog water, it lay down a bit, of course I looked at it full of sympathy. After about 10 minutes the dog suddenly perked up, while the owners were still almost out of breath, started jumping around and literally demanded the owner get up and throw the stick. Nothing could stop it, ran around full of energy and joy. Even bounced when they set off towards Tolsti vrh. The wolfdog that came up later also showed no special signs of fatigue. So.....
Best really each individual knows their own dog and chooses tours accordingly.
It's great to see dogs and their owners rejoicing and enjoying each other.

With dogs it's like with small children. We choose suitable gentle shady paths if possible somewhere by water.
Or we retreat to higher areas; Velika planina Pokljuka Pohorje Bloška planota Trenta. Rakitna Gorjanci.....Slovenia is so diverse it offers something for everyone.
How good it feels to me.....1

Regarding the debate between MajaO and U&Q let me repeat once again: dog is not for demanding and higher ranked paths where most secured ones belong too. Really maybe only exceptionally if there's some exposed part or cable on otherwise technically easy path.

While dogs on secured paths abroad are prohibited obviously here another accident like the one on Planjava three years ago must happen. Luckily only the owner suffered and of course innocent dog but someone completely innocent nearby could suffer.

Where with a dog?
A debate that's been dragging on for almost three years. Newer visitors to this forum may not know that we've already mulled this ... but on Saturday under Skuta I wanted to scold the dog owners so badly ...., well, they were two foreigners, but poor animal, in such heat, and without any protection, of course the gentleman is nicely protected with headwear, booties on paws ... what about the dog.jezen
... and so, dog owners who drag your pets into the mountains, really think if you love them enough.zavijanje z očmi

If we all minded our own business, the world would be nicer. Responsible, irresponsible... Today in KG I saw a dog descending nicely even over pitons and all that fuj and fej crap. Important is that the dog has enough water and a smart owner. But we here discovered hot water that's long evaporated! Give peace with these dogs, owners already know what's best for the dog, or maybe you live in illusions that if I tell him/her something, he/she won't take the dog around anymore...
Completely the same opinion I have also about "NOB markers and other crap and nonsense. Let's go to the mountains and love each other, as Pippi says!

>>owners already know what's best for the dog, or maybe you live in illusions that if I tell him/her something, he/she won't take the dog around anymore.

The owner should know what's good for his dog, but there are owners who have no clue (even if we leave the mountains alone now, which are just one of the environments where this shows).

I've seen so many examples that I won't even list them. Dog on a one-meter-long chain or in a two-square-meter kennel e.g., owner who beats the dog in front of everyone, kid who tortures the dog with some booties in which it can hardly walk,... all that and more I've seen.

What happens behind four walls. Cases like Baričević, and that Primorec whose dog suffered on the chain, and a couple more tortures that came to public are just the tip of the iceberg...

That's because anyone can have a dog here, sorry for the expression - every idiot who has no idea how to handle them and what's good for it. And I have no illusion that if I tell him it will be better... at most I risk: 'mind your own business' or something similar.

... then you really know too little about some things for all - all owners to know what's really good for the dog.
... bla, bla, next time at a similar encounter, I'll photo the thing and send it somewhere; the dog that wanted up the rocks just slid down ...

Oh, what impatience. Today I went to Vrtaško sleme, of course with my little dog, and met quite a few hikers and from no one did I get the feeling that it was unpleasant for them because the dog went past them.

But are dogs for the couch, not for nature? I only started going to the mountains this year and exactly because I now have a dog, because I see how it enjoys wandering around all day. Today she was quite tired after the hike, otherwise the usual biggest problem is getting her back into the car after the hike, because she thinks it's much nicer to walk around than to be at home.

U&O: If the dog was leashed, calm, didn't rush at people, sniff them,... and you didn't really meet on some narrow precipitous paths, then of course I really don't see a reason why anyone would feel uncomfortable.

Otherwise... as I already said, most people prefer to stay quiet rather than stand up for themselves and act. Also in other areas. They rather console themselves with how rude, ugly, irresponsible,... and I don't know what that guy was. That's obviously more comfortable for them, but of course they solve nothing with that. mežikanje

U&O: I think the best is to use common sense, check maps and forums, but I advise you to leash the dog or at least put a muzzle on him.
I myself have had experiences where a dog scratched me, even though the owner said "he's not aggressive and doesn't bite". The wound was superficial, but still I don't think it's right that the owner allowed it.
A dog is a dog and although people are often to blame when dogs bite us, when the dog scratched me I didn't do anything aggressive towards him, except walking past him with poles in hand. Maybe he took that as an aggressive gesture, but still the dog should be on a leash and have a muzzle on busier paths.

Just so there's no misunderstanding, I like animals, when we meet them on paths, usually we even chat a bit with the owner, but not where the dog can't manage and suffers, since it can't say, hey dude nasmeh, I'm thirsty and my paws hurt.
