General avalanche danger in Zelenica area is 3rd degree on five-level European scale

From yesterday to today 40 cm snow fell at Zelenica. Higher, above ca. 1800 m more snow. Snowfall accompanied by moderate to strong S to SW wind transporting snow. Lots of windblown snow in narrow gullies.
Above 1800 m avalanche danger higher, 4th degree. Below 1300 m danger 2nd degree.

Yesterday large dry loose snow avalanches from S aspect Begunjščica (pic below), below 1400 m wet loose snow avalanches. Spontaneous avalanching expected next days, esp. Central gully dangerous. Staying/walking under these slopes dangerous.

Snow on sunny aspects transforms slower due to lower temps above 1500 m, below 1400 m faster.

Tomorrow cloudy. Precip will ease by morning. Temp at 1500 m ca. -3°C, 2000 m ca. -6°C. Northerly wind to 30 km/h at 2000 m.

Friday new deterioration. Models: 20-40 cm snow possible. Snow level ca. 1000 m.

Currently advise against mid/high mountain routes.

Ascent from Ljubelj to Zelenica currently not recommended due to avalanches (source PZS and ARSO) !!!

Tadej, big thanks for your such precise warnings about various mountain dangers. Interesting to know how many lives and how many injuries your warnings and advice saved. But I know that's not possible in reality. Thanks again for your selfless effort! nasmeh

Compact snow cover starts at 1200 meters. On some sections the path is icy.

Today some were on Begunjščica via the central gully, so we're going up early tomorrow too. The base should be hard enough.

Today a little wandering around Zelenica to the source of Završnica. It was cloudy and windy (I thought it would be a bit nicer anyway). But, Zelenica is nice in any weather.

Srednji vrh, behind it Stol in the clouds.

Zelenica and lower surrounding peaks dry, muddy at times. Winter central on Begunjščica is in its last breaths.
