‼General avalanche danger in the Zelenica area is HIGH, 4th degree on the five-level European scale‼
Below around 1200 m.a.s.l. avalanche danger is CONSIDERABLE.
Valid for the entire Municipality of Tržič area.
Over yesterday and last night up to 70 cm snow fell at 1500 m. Snowfall was accompanied by strong south wind that transported snow and built wind slabs and cornices. In places wind blew snow to ice surface. In leeward spots huge amount of wind-drifted snow.
Snow is already slowly settling and transforming very slowly. Conditions change rapidly with elevation. Already yesterday evening spontaneous dry loose snow avalanches triggered in Zelenica area. Since snow fell on icy base it's very poorly bonded there. Additional load on snowpack will be new snow falling today during the day. Expect up to around 25 cm snow at 1500 m. This snow will further worsen avalanche conditions. Walking under slopes steeper than 30° is very risky in these conditions ‼‼
Expect constant avalanche danger to last until 31.12.2020.
Today cloudy with precipitation. At 1500 m around -4°C, wind S to SW up to 40 km/h. Snow line around 800 m. Tomorrow cloudy. Expect short snow showers, wind will calm somewhat. Further deterioration possible around New Year. More in coming days.
At Ljubelj we put up warning sign and fence already yesterday evening (picture below).
‼Please heed warnings, only then we can avoid accident. Intervention by mountain rescuers, mountain police unit and others is very risky in such conditions and sometimes impossible, so let's allow them peaceful holidays with loved ones by staying in valley and waiting for safer conditions.
Colleagues from Lawinenwarndienst Kärnten also forecasted HIGH avalanche danger for this area
Snow will stay, so be responsible to yourself and others.
Hut at Zelenica is and will remain closed until conditions improve.

Oh what a story! Touched me to tears. Already Fran Erjavec wrote in his book about animals how they spent whole winter together in hut with coal tit and grandma.
Tomcats I know are dangerous to them because they like to stay near ground.

‼General avalanche danger in Municipality of Tržič area is CONSIDERABLE, 3rd degree on five-level European scale. Above 1700 m already HIGH.
Overnight up to 20 cm snow at 1500 m. Snow wet. Snowfall accompanied by strong SW wind transporting it to leeward spots building new cornices and slabs. At 2000 m more snow, up to 40 cm. Yesterday snow line around 1400m same today. During day up to 30 cm more at 1700 m. Lower below 1400 m rain with snow. Snowpack heavily waterlogged below treeline. Especially steep grassy slopes dangerous here. Higher above 1700 m in Tržič Municipality avalanche danger already HIGH.
Today heaviest precipitation, rain in lower areas, heavy snow above 1400 m. Towards evening snow line lowering. Avalanche danger due to new snow and snowpack instability also below 1400 m can be HIGH! SW wind calms by evening but above 1700 m gusts up to 50 km/h or more. Yesterday at 8 am gust 90 km/h at Zg. Plot.
‼Avalanche danger also below 1700 m will greatly increase next two days, advise against going to mountains. Let this weekend be for family at home. Lots of snow and it will stay.

‼General avalanche danger in Tržič Municipality area is HIGH, 4th degree on five-level European scale. ‼
Yesterday rain up to ca. 1400 m. Heavily waterlogged snowpack. Between 1400-1700 m wet snow, above 1800 m dry snow (moisture decreased with height). Snowfall esp. higher elevations transported new/dry snow building slabs, wind slabs cornices. On all slopes >25° regardless aspect above 1200 m avalanche danger in Tržič Municipality HIGH. Thaw strongly affected old base. Snow at 1500 m wet up to 1 m from ground one condition for large wet snow avalanches yesterday. Same conditions today, stay home. Higher above 1700 m yesterday daytime up to 60 cm new snow, at 1500 m 35 cm.
Today snow line lowering. At 1500 m up to 30 cm more, higher even more. At 2000 m morning south wind to 40 km/h, afternoon calms somewhat evening shifts to north directions. Air temp at 1000 m ca. 1°C, 1500 m -1°C. Snowing.
‼Avalanche danger in Tržič Municipality HIGH and will be next days. Advise against mountain visits. Zelenica area CLOSED due high chance large avalanches. Also path/road to Hut old Ljubelj CLOSED.
Please heed posted warning signs.
Extra caution on icy trails lower areas. Today small streams may rise.

!General avalanche danger above the forest line in the Municipality of Tržič is HIGH, 4th degree on the five-level European scale. Below 1600 meters it is CONSIDERABLE
Yesterday during the day the snow line was around 2000 meters. Up to that altitude it was raining. From midday onwards the snow line started to descend. Above around 1800 meters up to 40 cm of snow could have fallen by today. The amount of new snow varies with altitude. From yesterday to today around 1500 meters 70 mm of precipitation in the form of rain fell. Air temperature did not drop below freezing. The snow is wet. Also today above 1600 meters HIGH avalanche danger, lower 3rd degree.! The snow cover is very unstable on grassy slopes and elsewhere, especially above 1800 meters, where new snow fell. Today during the day we still expect spontaneous release of wet snow avalanches. Snow avalanches can reach the valley bottoms, so we advise against walking in valleys or at the foot of slopes with incline over 30°‼.
Today in Tržič mountains cloudy. It will cool a bit. Snow line will drop to around 800 meters. During the day some snowfalls, but not much. Air temperature at 1500 meters around -2°C, moderate SW wind blowing. Tomorrow similar weather. On Wednesday possibly more precipitation, also as snow. Air temperature will drop sharply from mid-week.
Not suitable time for reaching peaks in high mountains and also mid mountains. Wait for the snow cover to stabilize and freeze. By the end of the week conditions for climbing will also be more suitable.

‼General avalanche danger above the forest line on sun-exposed slopes in the Municipality of Tržič is HIGH, 4th degree on the five-level European scale, elsewhere 3rd degree.
The air is heating up strongly, which also affects the snow cover in high and mid mountains. In the last two days we could observe some wet bonded snow avalanches on sun-exposed aspects. This natural phenomenon will be more pronounced in the coming days as the air will heat up even more. Solar radiation on sun-exposed slopes will strongly affect the snow cover midday and afternoon, when the sun is strongest, we can expect large wet snow avalanches. On sufficiently steep grassy base, ground avalanches can be triggered. Once again we warn that avalanches can reach their maximum reach, so walking or staying under these slopes is risky. On shady aspects the snow cover is transforming. Some slopes are stable, in some gullies there is still unprocessed snow. Also under cornices the snow is still relatively light in places. Transformation will be more pronounced in the next days due to warm air at height. Ridges are wind-blown and icy. Shady slopes are relatively hard, but not all. Due to solar radiation there can also be danger of cornice fall, which are very large on ridges in places. Be careful!
Today in Tržič mountains nice weather. Air temperature at 1500m around 5°C, at 2000m around 6°C. At 2000m SW to W wind up to 50 km/h. Tomorrow a bit warmer.
‼Snow avalanches are natural phenomenon without timetable. Very hard to predict exactly, somewhat easier to forecast. In the next days make sure not to cross their paths! They have power and don't choose. Here the rule of the stronger applies!

In the morning I didn't notice anyone on Šentanski plaz, nor in the afternoon. It looked frozen, how deep it is would be seen on a cut. In the morning they were ascending the Central plaz.

We/they ascended and skied down Šentanc and Osrednja grapa. According to the story, Šentanc has crust, Osrednja grapa is hard grippy (good for skiing), not icy.

❗General avalanche danger in the Municipality of Tržič above 1600 meters is CONSIDERABLE, 3rd degree on the five-level European scale, below 1600 meters MODERATE.
Today during the day up to 20 cm snow fell around 1600 meters, higher in high mountains locally a bit more new snow. Snowfall was accompanied by moderate to strong wind from northern directions, gusting up to 50 km/h. ❗Wind transported snow and built wind slabs and pillows. Especially a lot of drifted snow in gullies and leeward aspects, where soft pillows formed. Snow fell on hard icy base in places and did not bond with it. Here a critical layer formed. In these places even with small additional load we can trigger slab avalanche.
Lower, less snow. At the start of snowfall wet snow fell, which bonded a bit better with old snow surface. Here too northern wind started blowing towards morning, later transporting snow to leeward spots.
In the next days low temperatures in Tržič mountains. Snow will transform and settle slower because of that. Avalanche danger level above 1600 meters will remain CONSIDERABLE tomorrow, Monday, 3rd degree on the five-level European scale.
Tomorrow, Monday air temperature at 1500 meters around -4°C, S to NW wind up to 20 km/h. At 2000 meters around -8°C, wind from S to NW up to 30 km/h. In next days some cloudiness, possible short snow showers, but small amount of precipitation.
☝‼In the next days need to be very careful when hiking in high mountains, as wind made many pillows. In places very hard to recognize these hidden traps, which are (too) often fatal for people‼

‼General avalanche danger in the Municipality of Tržič above 1500 meters is CONSIDERABLE, 3rd degree on the five-level European scale.
Temperatures dropped quickly yesterday towards evening due to influx of cold air mass over our areas. Rain quickly turned to snow. In 12 hours up to 25 cm snow fell around 1500 meters, lower a bit less. Snow partially bonded with wet old snow base. Wind also turned direction quickly yesterday around 18:00 and blows from S to NE. Currently gusting up to 25 km/h at 1700m. This wind transports snow and builds slabs and pillows, so in places, especially high mountains, can trigger avalanche already with smaller additional load. Old snow base will remain very moist. Temperature of old snow under this new snow didn't change much and will stay so in coming days, regardless of forecast lower air temperatures. On sufficiently steep slopes expect spontaneous sliding. Expect spontaneous sliding also on all southern slopes with grassy base. Be careful crossing these slopes even at lower altitudes.
❗Today in Tržič mountains cloudy. During day snowfall will stop. Another 5 to 10 cm snow possible. Air temperature today around 1500 meters around -5°C, strong wind from S to NE, which will still transport snow and build pillows and slabs. Also in next two days temperatures below freezing, so snow will transform slowly.
Winter is back. If going to mountains don't forget mandatory equipment and choose suitable goals. High mountains not training ground!

‼General avalanche danger in the Municipality of Tržič above 1500 meters is CONSIDERABLE, 3rd degree on the five-level European scale.
☝Yesterday afternoon air temperature dropped quickly. Above 1500 meters rain quickly turned to snow. Overnight up to 45 cm snow fell around 1500 meters❄. Higher, around 2000 meters more snow. Therefore avalanche danger above 1500 meters 3rd degree, lower where less snow 2nd degree. Snow fell on wet snow base. In places bonded well with old snow surface. Since snowfall accompanied by wind it built pillows and slabs. On sufficiently steep grassy bases, especially southern slopes expect spontaneous sliding. Also elsewhere, shady aspects higher altitude, sufficiently steep slopes expect spontaneous sliding. On places with drifted snow can trigger avalanche already with smaller additional load.
Since temperatures will rise in next days even in high mountains, snow will transform and melt quickly, thus avalanche danger will be considerable.❗ Those planning to go to high mountains be extremely careful.
Today morning in Tržič mountains still cloudy. Snowfall will gradually stop. Air temperature at 1500m around 4°C, at 2000 around -2°C. Wind from southern directions will start. Tomorrow in high mountains partly clear with somewhat higher temperatures.

Yesterday afternoon quick trip to Zelenica. Nobody anywhere. Peace and quiet. Only helicopter disturbed the peace. Maybe searching for someone. Zelenica full of flowers. On the way up even met a young viper. And mice were swarming. Beautiful globeflower already blooming.
