Sonnwand is 2291 meter high peak and is part of the Zillertal Alps. The peak is located 4 km north-northwest of peak Rauchkofel - Monte Fumo. The nearest mountain hut is Plauener Hütte, located 2.0km east-northeast. A little further is bivouac Neugersdorfer Hütte. 5 km east-southeast of the peak there is lake Eissee. 4 km south-southeast from the summit there is glacier Rauhkofelkees, 4 km north-northeast from the summit there is also glacier Zillerkees.
