SamoK: Such sarcasm is really unnecessary and shows only that probably not the bivouac shape bothers you, but the change itself.

My opinion is that if bivouacs exist, then it is right to maintain them or replace the worn-out ones with new ones made in the spirit of the times and not in the spirit of quasi-tradition, which actually isn't.

Keko: I see we met, we were a group of three right behind you. I join the opinion on Plemenice, that part of the path is super, relatively few people, well protected and you go almost to the top in the shade. Down to Mali Triglav is of course a highway.

That's right, I encountered them last year on June 17th, and considering this year's weather...

lingo: Are we on hribi.net or on chips&couch.si? velik nasmeh

Snow in mountains is also tempting me seriously...

Good, opinions are given, as velesa already suggested, it would be nice to conclude this topic, because it really doesn't belong here. If someone wants to continue the debate, let's open a new topic...

I understand that some of you are concerned about safety in the mountains, but the decision is primarily up to the parents. Our role here shouldn't be constant moralizing and accusing "irresponsible" parents etc., but simply providing the most accurate information possible so people can make the best decisions.

My father took me to the mountains as a little kid and always assessed well what I could handle and what not, and even on tougher tours like Mangart, we went without helmets or self-belay kits (different times), and nothing dangerous ever happened. He knew what he was doing...

To cut it short, my "point" is that age isn't as important as the parent knowing as much as possible about their own and the child's abilities and the mountain they're heading to. Whether they've never been to Mangart before matters less than their shared experiences.

I found out what it was about:

"Ljubljana Station
At 15.32 on the way from Ojstrica a hiker slipped from the ridge 30 meters off the path to the north side and
lay motionless. The on-duty GRS rescue team with a doctor and the Slovenian army helicopter crew intervened. They cared for the unconscious hiker and transported him to UKC Ljubljana."

How small? The path is not really demanding for someone who has already done something more challenging, for kids though I think it can be tiring. I met ten-year-olds there myself, maybe even younger, so definitely doable. The path goes like this - up to the first pegs there is no danger, then follows maybe a kilometer of wire and pegs that don't lead through sheer areas, then scree starts which can be awkward but not really exposed to drops, the last part of the path on grassy slope which is a bit more exposed, but the path is easy and in pretty good condition.

Based on my own experiences the decision is yours, but definitely don't tackle it if you haven't done some high mountain ascent together before. Helmets on your heads and self-belay kit if needed...

Helicopter arrived at three in the afternoon, after which the rescue lasted about an hour by my estimate.

On Sunday, 8.7. I went like gregorp through the gorge to the top and down over Škarjev rob. I agree the path isn't so very demanding as some others, nevertheless some caution is needed especially due to stonefall on the path if there are many people. Helmet is obligatory. Otherwise very nice, varied and quite short circular tour...

On 7.7. I went again to Ojstrica via Vodole pasture, past Mala Ojstrica up, to Kocbek hut and back to start. There were huge crowds, on the way back I observed a helicopter rescue about 100m below the summit. Hope it wasn't anything serious...mrk pogled

Really nice route. I hope to join you in a few years, for now just ambitions, no knowledge yet.

janez.novak:

Road to Jermanca is ok, just last kilometer more impassable (potholed road). You save about half an hour if you're more of the "fast" sort, or a solid hour if slower.

As the previous one said, from Povelj the path is easier in terms of difficulty, but harder on the knees than via Kališče because the steepness doesn't let up for even 5 minutes. But the route from Povelj is also better for me, especially in winter when the gully is snow-covered and the views are super. The attached pictures were taken mid-February this year.

Today on Brana via Kam. saddle, ascent conditions super, snow on scree already very little, but path still quite snowy, so with buddy across scree bit lower than path - along snow cover edge to NW ridge, from there path to top fairly easy (meaning as demanding as this path to top - still need to grab rock). Shame weather worsens again - another week good weather, no snow left...
