Last week there was a broadcast from Kredarica.

https://radioprvi.rtvslo.si/2018/07/studio-ob-sedemnajstih-vmes-porocila-757/

This broadcast happens every year and the content is practically the same every year. The PZS rep moans that the state doesn't help mountaineers at all, there's no money, it's getting harder to maintain huts and paths, too many people on Triglav and so on. Practically the same for 10 years. So either nothing can really be done or they're sleeping more at PZS.

This time Bojan Traven from the Turizem Bohinj institute was there, who sketched a slightly different picture. He said there are more and more people and therefore more and more money. He added that in Bohinj they're ready soon to allocate tourist tax money from mountain huts in this municipality for employing professional path markers, since with all this pressure volunteers will slowly not be enough anymore. He also mentioned the upcoming establishment of a new connecting mountain path around Triglav, which will promote other points and avoid the highest point.

For such cases I recommend the Locus Map app, it also has hiking trails. I used that last year on SPP. You miss the marking, go past, look at the app and it nicely shows your location and you immediately know where to go.

It's worth mentioning that in the last week we got two new runners on SPP. On Saturday Srečko Gomilšak finished in 12 days and 16 hours, yesterday Klara Bajec in 10 days and 18 hours.

So according to known data, now 15 people have gone under the magic 14-day limit.

I can report that the stamp is at Korošica.

In the box fixed to one of those three containers that are up there now.

We have the TNP Act, which states that parking is prohibited in natural environment.

Designated parking lots are made by humans, so they do not fall under natural environment.

Not really clear to me how fitness helps so much avoiding accidents. I have decent fitness, marathon 3h10min.

In my view almost everything that counts is experience. Almost 20 years in mountains, counts for something. Learned tons in that time and had an accident myself, luckily not bad enough to call GRS. But more experienced than me have called too, even fitter. So pointless to judge, never know when weird circumstances hit you. If not mountains, then road or elsewhere.

See you at Grintovec run end of month. Recommend especially to big egos to see where they really stand.

Does that mean it will be closed all summer this year?

Parking fee in Vrata is paid from 5:00 to 17:00 from 15.6. to 15.9.

According to the rules signatures should be with the hut stamps, but I also don't have all signatures, yet I got the badge. Just continue calmly.

Someone brought a candle in memory of the tower.

Yes, go to Batognica, stay on SPP to Prehodavci, then turn left to lake.

No exaggeration. I also completed the SPP booklet quite early. Of course children are different and only parents know what children they have.

When my father first took me to the Alps, I immediately fell in love with this world and haven't got tired of it to this day.

Later he took my younger sister. She wasn't interested; later she didn't go to the mountains anymore and does other things in her free time.

This spring I got the idea to try to cover 5000 vertical meters in 1 day. So far I've reached 3000 m in 1 day several times and once a few years ago 4000 m within 24 hours (from 8:00 am to 8:00 the next day).

Since I'm far from any fast mountain runners, I had to find some good terrain for such a feat. The total distance shouldn't be too long, nor did I want to repeat the same ascent multiple times. First I thought where something suitable might be in the Julian Alps. Maybe some combination of Vrata and Trenta with intermediate ascents, but in the end I didn't find anything suitable. In the end I realized that the best would be to combine 3 ascents in the Kamnik Alps.

So this Wednesday early morning I drove to Kamniška Bistrica, filled water and continued by car to the lower station of the cable car for Kokrško sedlo. There was the start. At 2:10 I headed towards Grintavec. The full moon was shining and as soon as I came out of the forest, I could turn off the light. Wonderful. Short stop at the saddle, then on to the summit, which I reached in 3 hours. Short view of the surrounding mountains before sunrise, then slowly back to the car. There change of bottle, some refreshment, the second ascent could begin.

At 7:30 I set off towards Koroška Rinka. I was already a bit tired, but it went ok. It was still early enough not to be hot. As usual, no crowd over Žmavčarje. Who's crazy enough to go into that steepness? In 2 hours I pushed to the bivouac, then another 1 hour to Rinka. So the second ascent was done, from the top I could see Grintavec on one side, which I left a few hours earlier, and my last goal on the other. Followed descent to the car. There again snack and bottle change.

At 13:25 I continued descent towards the source of Kamniška Bistrica, which ended at the parking lot a bit above the hut at the source. At 13:50 the descending was over, the ascent towards Kamniško sedlo began. In the hottest part of the day I was in the forest, otherwise it would have been quite hard. Well, it was anyway, especially that ascent a bit below Pastirci. I stopped at the bench, nibbled a bit, drank something and it went easier onwards. The heat was slowly easing, a bit of wind blew and I was already sitting on the bench at the saddle (16:30). I asked myself if I really feel like going to Brana after all this. But no. If I've come this far, I'll manage that too. Slowly, step by step, I approached the top. I was there at 17:30.

Then again descent along the ascent path. When I reached the parking lot, the sun had set, again you could see just as much as at the start of the tour. In front of me was still half an hour walk to the car. When I reached Žagana peč, the 5000 vertical meters barrier was broken. I believed I could do such a feat, but until you do something, you can't be completely sure. Here the goal was fulfilled. Tiring and wonderful day that will stay in my memory for some time, although I won't lack such and other challenges in the future either.

No snow (except a bit in the second window, no winter gear needed), cables are OK. Some sections [of] vertical climb along the wall. If no problem, go.
NYG15. 08. 2018 20:14:31
Start from Vršič at 5:00, at 9:00 at Jalovec, at 13:00 at Mangart, at 15:00 at saddle, hitch to Bovec, last bus (from Bovec) back to Vršič at 17:30.

But need quite some fitness to catch that schedule. And some breaks.

In the first years when they didn't predict well how the material would hold up, serious renovations (i.e. frame replacements) were quite frequent. Question how many parts are still really original from 1895. Some say 30%, but no one really knows. The symbol will live on, the frame will be newer. Otherwise, exposed out in the open that high up, it won't hold.

But it's a unique opportunity to go up when the tower won't be there. It tempts me to pop up after a few years.
