I'm about to buy an avalanche transceiver. Somehow leaning towards Pieps DSP or Barryvox Pulse. Maybe Ortovox D3 too.

What are your experiences? What do you recommend/use?

Thanks

Does anyone know what the current conditions are like at the saddle regarding snow/avalanches? Some snow fell today and since I plan to go up tomorrow (if conditions are OK) I'm interested in what to expect? What is the avalanche risk?

Has anyone been around here today? What are the conditions like?

Hi. I'm thinking of going to Nad Šitom Glava tomorrow. Has anyone been on Vršič/Mojstrovka in the last few days and can say something about the conditions?
Thanks and best regards

Here, got the Trango Alp boots at Sportler store in Udine. Thanks everyone for the help.

If anyone is interested by chance, they also have good discounts (-40%) on snowshoes, I got Salewa for 60 eur...

Neither Sportler nor AlpStation have the Trango Alp model in my size anymore, but they have the Nepal Trek Evo model. Can someone tell me more about it?

Bizy: I already checked that, but the thing is I'd like to have the physical boot on my feet before ordering anything... don't want to mess up the size...

klm: do you maybe have some contact there or when they are open (no data on internet because renovating site...), don't want to drive there for nothing...

In Iglu I know they can order it for me but I'd have to order the size from memory (without having the boot on my foot, even though it's the same as S Evo...) and wait a couple of weeks...

Hello, does anyone know where I could get La Sportiva Trango Alp men's boots? They don't have them at Iglu... maybe some shop near the border (AUT, IT)?

My thinking:

BALL is interesting idea, but how with it in practice? Couple questions come to mind:
- how/where to carry it so you can throw it very easily?
- if avalanche surprises you, do you even have time to throw it?
- can some ice chunk in avalanche puncture it? will it then "sink" in avalanche?
- how long cord? longer it is higher chance it tangles and goes with you under avalanche...
- still need at least shovel from mandatory gear (or those searching you): on average buried at 1-1.5m depth and you can forget digging by hand, especially if snow is a bit compacted (personally checked on avalanche course - even with shovel takes eternity, bare hands no chance...)
- and more could be found...

BEACON:
- just one comment: "if you have it, learn to use it..." in my opinion no problem to take half hour break on every tour and practice a bit (at least I do)

Otherwise always together: beacon, probe, shovel - one without others helps almost nothing...

Hello, does anyone know up to where the road to Vršič from Kranjska Gora is passable? Thanks and LP.

Thanks.

Maybe more advice on "latest return" from couloir (sun, falling rocks/ice) and which side to keep on ascent/approach (assume winter route not on summer path)?

Has anyone been lately to top of Jalovec couloir? What conditions?

Thinking of going Saturday, curious about some things (never been to couloir):

- going "on foot", no skis/snowshoes
- full gear: ice axe, crampons, helmet, avalanche gear
- how many hours from barrier to hut and to couloir top (for "walker")
- latest recommended return from couloir (read somewhere sun hits and stones start falling more, better in valley then)
- on ascent/approach stick to which side (left, right)?

This weekend we had Days of Loyalty to Snow Avalanches on Pokljuka organized by GRZS. Today was otherwise planned ascent to Viševnik but they canceled it (mountain rescuers!) due to avalanche danger. Think that says it all...

As mentioned above we also did snow profile by Norwegian method, top 40cm slid off at very low load!

Considering that the hut at the saddle was open for the weekend(s), I assume there are no major avalanche risks? (even with nice weather forecasted for next week)?

Has anyone been up there?

Has anyone been up there recently? How is it?

In the box on the tree there's only the wooden holder of the stamp inside, the rubber is missing...
