One tour from last week that served as "farewell to summer" and also meant quite a conditioning challenge. It started at 2am in front of the hut in Kamniška Bistrica, continued with breakfast at 4am at Kamniško sedlo, watching sunrise on Brana between half six and half seven (in complete calm, pure bliss), morning walk through Kotliče, Turska gora and Male pode and quick dash up the southeast wall of Skuta to the top. The latter was "conquered" at half ten, so my buddy and I could escape the rising thunderstorm danger fairly early and slowly meander past the bivouac through Žmavcarje and Konec back to the valley.
Nice loop tour, sunrise on the summit is always a special experience, but the descent drags quite a bit, and this steepness through Žmavcarje doesn't do the exhausted body any good either. In short, Kamniško-Savinjske Alps are awesome, already looking forward to winter visitsvelik nasmehmežikanje

Yes, in the Slovenian way we need to solve the dilemma if processing landscape photos is morally acceptable and permissible.
nice pics, hope I also manage next week to find some time for Velika Planina. Hope the weekend is generous with snow...

A few photos from a phenomenal two-day tour (Vrata-bivak IV-Križ); finally some real winter, snow above approx. 1800m is super and doesn't sink, not too icy either. Recommended nasmeh

Has anyone gone up through Plemenice recently? If yes, interested how much of it is still maybe under snow ... except the gentle western plateau, of course.
Environment agency site says 75cm snow on Kredarica, then you see live pic with only individual snow patches and you're a bit doubtful nasmeh

If two weeks ago from Kamniška Bistrica valley towards the saddle there was practically no snow on the path, then probably no new snow fell in the meantime nasmeh

I can't believe there's even a debate about the suitability of crampons in winter conditions for the Storžič ascent. I don't know if besides, say, Raduha (from the hut at Loki) there's any other 2000er in Slovenia that almost doesn't require crampons in winter (don't know the Julians that well). The ladies that afternoon just mildly fu**** up, Juš smartly posted a general warning, so I don't even know what's so controversial here... except the bs debate that developed....

Thanks, what about the path from Kamniško sedlo towards Okrešelj, is it "accessible" in current conditions?
urbann1. 04. 2011 12:44:33
I have a question for winter ascent experts on this mountain, namely, can you get from Turska gora towards Brana with crampons, ice axe and helmet or is some belay needed too? thanks, best

To the end of Logarska, hut under the waterfall clear, since snow starts only at Okrešelj.

A long time no one has written about the Rinkes, so I'll ... below the Žleb one could wallow like on Judgment Day after the last snowfall, in the couloir super conditions, but when you reach the sun then brutal heat (as usual this winter in the high mountains). In short, a nice day spiced by the first ascent of Rinke nasmeh

I realize this week will keep us away from similar peaks for quite a while, but I'm curious which route in winter is usually "standard". And at what height in Julijci is the snow line this week anyway?
urbann16. 03. 2011 10:06:38
Which route to Kanjavec would be somehow the most suitable in snow conditions? Thanks for the answer.
urbann11. 03. 2011 21:49:27
With buddy we started today already at five in the morning from Konca, so part of ascent to Kokrško sedlo passed mostly in "turning back" and admiring, as seen from pics, majestic sunrise. We managed to avoid sun enough that snow on roof didn't soften to the top, but descent was already quite "wet". Those who went to top after us were probably quite exposed to soakingvelik nasmeh
urbann9. 03. 2011 14:48:40
Has anyone been to Grintovec over the roof in the last few days? Has the snow transformed enough for safe walking without much sinking in the early hours?
urbann26. 02. 2011 10:45:30
Aha, then I mixed up ... but we definitely were at the Deska summit (pile of stacked stones and long pole) and then over the burned slope. If honest, before this day I didn't even know about Deska, so please understandvelik nasmeh
urbann25. 02. 2011 10:17:12
We also had a different original goal, namely Veliki Vrh, but half an hour below the summit due to avalanche danger we turned back. Deska offered itself on a plate and along the ridge it was easy to reach the super panoramic summit. Really a phenomenal day on the paths of Dleskovška planina, one just "gets lost" in such moments. velik nasmeh
