Hi! I'm also interested if the trail to Grintavec is already trodden??, because I'd like to "conquer" it this weekend!

Trail from Kam. Bistrica to Cojzova hut is tough Lots of snow: up to hips and nothing frozen, sinks all the way up. So recommend snowshoes , from footprints in snow can say at most 3 people left traces . To Grintavec dunno, cuz I was pretty beat at Cojzova hut already

Thanks Tol for exact conditions in mountains. Tomorrow to mountains and I too figured snow is sinking and doesn't hold person. Today talked to hutkeeper at Rjavčeva hut, said road to Vršič plowed and passable with winter tires. Up no soul yet, hut closed now. Weekend maybe open if nice. Going check Struška with snowshoes! Lp.

Nosko, snow starts over 1200m, checked in Karavanke today. Over 1700m strongly recommend snowshoes or skis, otherwise can't go far on untrodden!.

Hello! Today I started from Kamniška Bistrica towards Grintavec. The trail to Kokrsko sedlo was OK without much sinking, further to the top all blown over, no track, so two mates caught up and we trampled to the summit together. On the way back I met a guy who said from Suhadolnik to the saddle he was wading to the waist! lp, Pero

Are crampons needed? How about avalanche danger?

I made it! Grintovec was mine for a while. But only for a while, the wind blew so hard I couldn't even stand normally... good that I could grab the "table" showing peak directions and Andrej and Robert, two tough mountaineers, were with me; otherwise, I don't know how it'd end??? I proved again that luck favors the brave and if a bit... you know, no dilemma about not reaching the goal. Yeah, Saturday 14.11.2009, I'll remember forever. Also due to sad news early - Tomaž Humar's death. True, death is expected on such ascents but it shook us all. So we were even more careful and dedicated our ascent to him who flirted with death many times and stayed by his principles and goals. Good luck, Tomaž, wherever you are, and watch over us not yet destined to leave earthly beauties and who sometimes persist to reach the summit even in abnormal conditions. You'd understand. Sincere condolences to family and friends. Respect to all fellow thinkers and mountain lovers, Nataša

... on every such ascent death is somehow expected... proved that luck is on the side of the brave ...
