This is really a radio amateur who made the effort to bring all the equipment to the summit. He occupied the summit for a couple of hours, which is how long the competition lasts. I believe there was still enough space for other visitors, because the summit is quite spacious.

Kočni and Grintovec, 11.9.2024

The road to Suhadolnik is somehow drivable with a higher vehicle, parking lot no problem. Above the last houses there is quite a mess, so the path is very orientationally demanding. Hard to see any marks all the way to the wall.

The path over Taško has seen better times but somehow I climbed to the junction of the old path, where there is a sign that the path is temporarily closed; no such sign below. Even higher, consequences of heavy rain are visible.

I turn onto the path to Dolce and soon reach the bivouac. Bivouac closed, cleared, all fine. Some fresh entries in the logbook too. Continue the path to Kočne, first a bit over scree then in partly crumbly rocks.

On Kokrska Kočna I scrape a couple of stickers off the box and sacrifice a new bag for the logbook. I find an old quite worn bag too and store it. On Jezerska I repeat the cleaning action and there too put the logbook in the old bag from Jezerska Kočna. Above the logbook a new statue of Mary. Feelings mixed - do we really need so much of this in the mountains?

Continue to Grintovec, on the path warning that there is an active landslide on the path. For that I took two pegs and some ropes, but I see that it can be passed with much caution. Pegging is off as most of the wall has completely collapsed and will slide more. Around the bend, the path has seen better times here too, over a couple of pegs and on Grintovec. Visibility cca 3m. Fog. And rather head on.

At Cojzova hut the weather clears completely and after a short stop I head down the old path to Suhadolnik. On the saddle a sign warning that the path from Grintovec to Kočne is closed. The old path to Suhadolnik is well crumbled too, on the last rock jump need to climb well 2-3m to descend. Then further over scree where the path to the valley used to be.

Bottom line and given the weather today, advise against Suhadolnik.

Via Dolge stene and via Streho dol.
Under Streho water has already created a gully. Same on Zg. Jame.

The path is quite solid except for many landslides. From the start more attention is needed, otherwise you quickly stray off the path.

That evil sign wasn't there today, so I happily drove to the cable car. I joined the only two cars parked there, and in the next half hour I met their owners. Three Croats were returning from Kemper's bivouac, I overtook two guys whose goal today was Spodnje Jame. So it was a super day, in excellent conditions today the only visitor to the king of KSA, which I think has never happened to me before. Snow starts at the bench, where I put on crampons and removed them on the return. Above the forest lots of snow, scree covered, track(s) à la directissima all the way to the saddle. Above the saddle multiple tracks in some places, so choose the most comfortable one on the way. Warm all the time, cold wind only right at the top, stayed there just over 20 min. On descent sun softened top snow layer, wet snow balls forming, ice axe very welcome. Had to cross some slabs too, wasn't hit by them as early enough on tour and warn potential visitors next hot days that early hour really golden hour.

From the top I first look towards the bivouac...

During descent. Highest on the horizon Košutna and Krvavec, in front Kalška gora and Greben.

Almost in line: Obir, Virnikov Grintovec and Goli vrh with Jenkovo planina.

Kompotela, one behind the other are Vrh Korena and Košutna, a little closer is Jermanov Turn, right at the bottom stretches Kalška gora.

When slipping into this hole he had no chance of survival.

With not too great expense this hole could be covered with a slightly thicker net, as for example the hole just below the Komna hut is covered.

I'm generally against excessive interventions and over-securing...because, the mountain is still objectively dangerous and we must always take that into account when we go up...

But in this specific case...yes, a piece of cable and a warning sign would be quite in place. Only on about the fifth time passing by there did I realize what kind of chasm you have almost directly under your feet. And I'd almost bet that 3/4 of those who've been to Grintovec but aren't regular visitors...aren't even aware of the danger at this spot. Plus, as said, it's a very crowded path and SPP to boot.

You're probably right, Dejan. Piotr's idea is more feasible, which I support too. Four poles linked by a steel cable would suffice (similar to the ridge of Mali Triglav). Since no avalanches here, with good setup it'd be eternal.
Yes, Zoran, I checked the situation closer, as here on a slip you really have no chance, since the slope instantly goes vertical. Of course dangerous in summer on wet grass too if you react a bit late.
But a note to media people, they inflated the slide length and fall depth to exaggerated 150 meters.

No problem, Tomislav. The black series of nature events just won't let up. From Kotliška accident, then the above-mentioned, and Saturday's on north side of Grintovec, mountaineer slip on Tominškova path, death of young skier on Soriska planina, and latest, unfortunate Swede in small plane crash on Velika planina.

Really interesting Gregor's thoughts, Bojan!
I don't know which part of the wall it was; on Saturday after 11 on a walk around Jezersko I watched the helicopter circling over us for some time.??? I took some pics of KSA north face, but even on the monitor the resolution is too poor to spot any special feature.
