Grintovec from Konc 7.4.2025. Conditions such that it's hard to imagine better. Temperatures around -8, minimal wind, sun, snow just right hard so no sinking but no slipping either. Perfect for crampons. Met only "locals" along the path today.

For the holiday my generation celebrated fully, I decide to visit my beloved hill. Forecasters threatened early morning fog, so I start from the cable car at six, yet four cars are already there. Ideal temperature, dry trail, at the saddle where I change my t-shirt surprisingly no wind. But I rushed up without a long break knowing that walking on hard snow is ten times easier than on sinking snow. It starts a bit above the Kočna junction, snow fantastic like in a real winter. Rocks covered, straight on crampon points without zigzags and stops. But damn! Where it should have been the firmest in my opinion, the hard crust was giving way and the last 200 height meters were not enjoyable at alljezen At the top sun and fogs were already alternating, the sandwich stayed in the rucksack and I ate it only on dry rocks right under the roof where there was more sun. The first hikers whom I left at the saddle are passing by. The hut was temporarily open, above it they were installing solar panels which they had removed in the fall. I lie down a bit on the sunny bench, since I wouldn't want to be home before lunch.nasmeh

No name, Boštjan. Can't find the contour line matching its height recorded anywhere. I'll go up this year and measure it. I hope those few meters don't exceed III much.

Thanks, Marjan. I see it says IV+, no visit then.jezik

In recent days the snow in the high mountains is melting fast. I'm wondering if anyone has been to Grintovec recently (via Streha) and can say if the path is fully bare?

Also, I'm curious about the road condition from Kamniška Bistrica to Konc parking? Is the road good without shaking the car or potholed?

Thanks for help nasmeh

Pero_248. 06. 2025 16:29:25
The road is worse in some sections, but overall pretty solid. It'll shake your car to pieces if you drive in second or even third where it's worst (that's how most would prefer to drive or do drive). Slowly, when you see a pothole, ditch,... in first gear and at a snail's pace, that's the basis, and it goes with any car. By this rule only height is the issue, but again if you go really slowly and scrape a bit on the sill, most likely nothing.

Aha, thanks. Well, exactly like that I drive too... slowly and also in first gear when there are potholes and ditches nasmeh. Just some gravel roads I know they sometimes resurface in spring and then the road is less problematic for the car. That's why I asked if maybe here too and now when not many summer visitors up yet and no summer storms yet, the road is any nicer.

Any info maybe for my first question about snow conditions on the path?

Thanks nasmeh

Yesterday, 20.6., with my wife we climbed Grintovec. To make the tour top-notch, we started from in front of the Dom in Kamniška Bistrica, where parking is still free for now. To the lower station via hiking path halfway, then on gravel. Ascent to Kokrsko sedlo quite steep. Before the saddle we saw a group of ibex under the wall of Kalska gora. Tea and shot in the hut chatting with very friendly keepers. All the time cloudy, which was very welcome for hiking. Roof of Grintovec between ca. 2100-2500 m in thick fog. At the summit sun but very little views. Descent back same path. Food in hut really excellent. On descent to the valley we ran into same group of ibex again, this time saw them really close by the hiking path. They arrived a few minutes earlier, sat down and watched us. When walking close they immediately protected the young one, which is right, but all without issues. On the whole trail see consequences of last year's storm, huge ditches where water rushed carrying stones and rocks to valley. Even on roof of Grintovec visible traces of heavy prolonged rain. Buried part of lower cable car station too. For this reason path from Suhadolnik to Kokrsko sedlo closed. Path destroyed and per hutkeeper no trace where to go. Also danger where path over Taško already demanding. In valley still foot soak in Kamniška Bistrica and refresh with drink. Tour with good 2000 height gain nice, long and tiring too.

Grintovec from Suhadolnik ... after a long time we headed to the Kamnik Alps, specifically to Grintovec and maybe further. By old habit we did not bother with the road drivability from Kamniška Bistrica to Konc, but chose the start at Suhadolnik farm above Kokra valley. We knew the road was drivable, what awaited us further we had no idea zavijanje z očmi.

The road is arranged to the parking lot and further to the cabin above the farm, then the landscape totally changes. Hiking paths are mostly gone, there are just huge gullies by which you are speechless. What torrent water can do, pouring in unbelievable amounts from the walls of surrounding mountains. Unimaginable. What now? We have some experience, so we decided to continue to the point where continuing seemed too dangerous.

We searched for the best, as safe as possible crossings and somehow crawled to the Old path. The entry in current conditions is extremely demanding, the transverse continuation without major problems. Soon we were at the junction with the path over Taško, which is gone. The path further from Suhadolnik pasture to Cojzova hut has already seen better days. Water destroyed it and it is much more strenuous for walking than it once was. This path won't see us for some time, if at all.

After the uncomfortable approach we stopped for morning coffee in Cojzova hut and continued towards Grintovec. Light rain meanwhile completely stopped and even the sun appeared. On the summit there were just a few of us, on descent crowds were ascending. Most were in shorts and t-shirts, we due to icy wind even put on gloves velik nasmeh. We descended to Cojzova and by the morning path back to the valley. More follows in the photo-story ...

But they disturbed us and increasingly bother us the prices in our huts. In offer we lag far behind comparable Italian and Austrian huts, in prices we sadly exceed them considerably eek.

Example in Slovenia... this time in Cojzova hut for two coffees from thermos (morning) we paid a whole 8€, with delivery via cable car. Last week in Vodnikov dom for a can of beer and Isostar we paid 14€, on Stol already last year 8€ for half liter of beer.

Example in Austria … less than a month ago in Carnic Filmoor-Hütte, as well as in Obstansersee-Hütte for half liter of beer we paid 5€, for coffee 3€. For dinner there are three menus, dessert mandatory. To avoid misunderstanding ... both huts have helicopter supply, i.e. the most expensive.

So much about how greedy the owners of some of our huts have become.
After ten minutes of carefree introduction, we just stare blankly1
With a big question mark in our minds, we continue in the direction of the mountain path2
It will be tough, everything is scattered...3
No doubt anymore, in front of us is the track of the former path. Progressing in this direction is pointless4
The only option is the forest road on the right, the breakthrough to it is a story in itself :)5
Here too, scree has covered the macadam in places, but it is passable6
Up to here. In front of us once ran the road. We look for a detour on the right side through the forest7
One of the few marking stones that has remained8
We used to park here, and for Suhadolnik you contributed some change to the box by the road9
The cairns are very welcome in the changed landscape10
What all grows from the sand :)11
Here the action of nature takes on a new dimension. A new, poorly trodden path runs dangerously close to the deep gully12
The photo cannot convey the extent of the erosion and the proportions relative to the surroundings13
Perhaps this descent is more suitable for a better impression, because there was no other way but down14
The small marking on the boulder will be a lasting reminder of what water can do15
View downward after exiting the gully. Unfortunately, the true dimensions are not visible again16
Higher up there are some issues with small landslides, but nothing concrete17
The crossing of the Old Path is surprisingly untouched18
Former path over Taško. It lies directly in the inlet of torrential waters and is accordingly destroyed19
Already the descent into the scree is giving us trouble, but there's no other way. Just a little further ahead, both paths merge.20
The next gully, which has been stripped bare by a torrent.21
Junction for the path over Hudi graben. I assume it's destroyed, although there's no notice.22
One can still walk here, despite the hiking path being washed away multiple times. Appropriate experience is mandatory.23
Towards the hut it's all fallen trees. I don't remember such uncomfortable paths from that direction.24
Cojzova hut at Kokrško sedlo25
Still official sign. The hut has been renovated outside and inside.26
There aren't many of us. We drink the damn expensive coffee, which despite the early hour is poured from a thermos.27
Right before the hut it's drizzling, now it looks like improvement. We change plans and go to Grintavec.28
view back to Kokrško saddle29
Even the sun appears, but the cold wind persists and persists.30
View of Kočni, which due to storm consequences now have quite limited access.31

View towards us :)33
On the descent we meet numerous hikers. A little earlier there were only a few of us at the summit.34
View down towards Kalški greben.35
Once again Cojzova koča. Due to high prices, we don't stop this time.36
Warning for closed path over Škrbina.37
Warning for closed path above Taško (Old path). We didn't notice such signs below.38
Immediately below the hut follows an uncomfortable descent.39
Poles. They come in handy in many places.40
This is how it goes now and will for a long time.41
Warning for closed path over Taško. We of course continue on the Old path, since we came that way too.42
In this section the marked access runs through Hudi graben. Probably more correctly written … it ran.43
Old path, just before it descends into the steepness.44
Soon some gymnastics follows …45
Then things become serious again …46
First we have to descend into the hollow to the rock with the marker.47
Here follows an ascent, then some path along the left bank, then descent into the ravine again.48
Somewhere there are traces of predecessors, elsewhere not again, altogether it's one big downfall.49
Below we notice a Czech family trying to decipher the path from the digital map. We convince them to discontinue continuing.50
We're back in the sandy deposit :)51
Even lower, elevation markers guide us again :)52
The road, or rather what is left of it. The detour is the same as this morning.53
We decide to follow only the road now. Debris from avalanches is no obstacle.54
Past Suhadolnik we descend to the parking lot. Some cars have gathered.55
GPS track. Altogether it came to 14 km and 1700 m elevation.56

And it will stay like that. This path (and many others) will be just history.
In huts only tea and 'ričet without' under price control, the rest all overpriced.
In summer (when huts are open) less gear in backpack, instead liquids and food, let them fool foreigners or tourists who go to mountains twice a year and for whom the cost is negligible. From me they won't get a cent.

About what you wrote I have been talking for some time, but I always got criticism from forumers.
Also about paths that are no longer maintained I talk - write, my last letter was addressed to the mayor of Jesenice.

Just for info - on Kopah small beer 4.40 euro. Prices at neighbors I know.
Much goes private here, ok let it, but for that price I also expect something. Here nothing of it.

But how come these paths (and various others) won't be repaired/remade in the future? Due to a lack of markacists?

jprim14. 07. 2025 20:28:18
Paths that are so destroyed won't be renewed anymore because it's not financially viable and makes no sense. Namely, access is possible via other paths, for example from Kamniška Bistrica, and that's enough.
Public notices need to be posted that the path is closed, actually, that it no longer exists.
