Nice plan, Simon. Just don't go at any cost, and make the end date flexible. You have looooots of time left.

Thanks. Hmm, just before entry it sank about knee-deep, a bit more.

Mr. Avguštin, I've turned back many times if I saw it wouldn't go or had doubts, and I can say I know what I'm doing.

Thanks. Of course not, not worth it. Month up or down, no big deal. nasmeh

Is there snow from Planica towards Tamar? Possible to sledge a bit with kids? Those who walked there please tell me how snow is - thanks and lp

No snow from Planica to hut. Even through forest mostly dry. Conditions for Jalovec north face fantastic..

I'm wondering what winter gear is needed to cross the glacier or to the summit with skis. I saw a YouTube video where they skied down from the top but I was up there in October and it seems a bit too demanding due to the exposure.

best are sleds ..from the summit down you hold the ridge, it'll shake you a bit..at the top of the glacier then drop straight to Tamar.. (sad that you bother (new?) creating a profile for such stupid/provocative questions..) obviously the weather's to blame and someone wants to liven up the day on the portal jezik

I meant for next week. Sad that if someone asks something that's not the smartest question they have to be attacked right away.

Damn...my answer is that whoever asks what gear is needed for skiing from Jalovec is as capable of that feat as I am capable of base jumping (I've also watched youtube videos)....I stand by that the question was meant as provocation! ..that's all from me in this debate mežikanje

In current polar conditions with ~ half a meter of new, dry snow it won't be safe to ski steep gullies for another 14 days. From the top of Jalovec, alpine skiers ski who study the terrain in detail when conditions align, including lots of mileage of skiing experience.
Otherwise even the road from Vršič for sleds is sometimes too dangerous.

January on Jalovec from Trenta, why not mežikanje.
Road to parking in Zapodno is plowed. Almost to hunter's hut there was track on otherwise thin snow cover. From hut onwards I broke trail along summer path to Mali Kot or Jalovec saddle. As expected cables were mostly still out, so no problems descending into "glacier". Through glacier no tracks, so I pulled out my own, and no powder as written on TKG, but only soft slush and wind-blown. From Jezerca onwards wind-packed and very good conditions on hard frozen snow to top.

Descent via ascent route.
and it appeared1
from Prisojnik to Triglav2
sometimes more, sometimes less snow3
steep into Ozebnik4
and further up5
where this view opens6
and this one7
at the little man on the summit I leave the ice axe8
and then back down9
passage10
back into Ozebnik11
back up to Jalovška škrbina12
the cables were mostly out13
pack up gear and take photos14
then down to Trento15
again past the hunter's16
Such paths can be the most dangerous, leaves, ice underneath, roots and steep frozen slopes, so carefully, helmet on such paths is not superfluous17

Wonderful, when I'm "big" maybe I'll venture on such a tour too!
Do you need two ice axes for such ascent?
