There is still some snow at two spots. Up through the gully you can go around, then down to Špička the snow is already soft. Best to go check yourselves..nasmeh

Snowfield on picture 2: crampons recommended in the morning, afternoon already soft enough to go without cutting steps, if someone feels technically competent enough..... definitely much safer with crampons and 100% mežikanje - verified

Maybe someone knows the conditions on Jalovec from Tamar via Kotovo sedlo and further to Špička. Is there still any snowfield?

Hi, was there 3 days ago via J. škrbina - snow still lies at two spots: at entry to the wall and on the upper scree, but with some caution no obstacle. Path over Špička has some harmless snow under V. Ozebnik. If in doubt or in cold, tie ice axe to backpack. Safety is safety.

Hi, interested in the condition at Jalovska škrbina, i.e. are there snowfields and are ice axe and crampons needed? Also if someone knows the condition at Kotovo sedlo?

Our tour should go from the hut at Tamar to Jalovska škrbina and down via Kotovo sedlo, so we know how to prepare. nasmeh thanks

Hi, yesterday I tried from Tamar to Jalovec over Jalovška škrbina. At the top of the scree, left of the glacier, there was still so much snow that I couldn't bypass it via the narrow crack. In my opinion the only option is to ascend the glacier with full winter gear to the start of the secured path, then somehow with a rope do the vertical descent (5-7m) down the smooth glacier wall into the crack to the wall.... I preferred to turn back and go over Kot...

Yesterday, I met a gentleman who was returning from the direction of Jalovec towards Vršič. He didn't go to the summit, he said there was too much snow.
Still yesterday's picture of Jalovec..

Does anyone know the conditions on Jalovec from Loška Koritnica - especially interested in snowfields in the gullies? Thanks.

Yesterday, 26.9.2014 we went to Jalovec from Vršič, up past Shelter under Špička (closed!), down over Jalovška Škrbina (quite demanding for descent). The whole path is dry, no snow.

At the summit we met hikers who came from Tamar, according to them there is some snow on that side but in places where the path is well protected.

Today to Jalovec instead of planned Loška Koritnica from Zadnja Trenta over Jalovška Škrbina up and over shelter under Špička down.
Nice weather, no peculiarities on the path, great company and quoting colleague on the way: "it would be a sin to stay home today".

Today's day without winter gear wouldn't have succeeded at allvelik nasmeh.
To Tamar by bike, to the forest line with headlamp, then on scree in the light of the silver moon. Since this winter was very generous with snow, I approach via Ozebnik. Snow of first quality and only the exit is rocky. On the summit, fog started rising from the Gorenjska side and thus blocked the view of the other Julijske Alpe. I descend to Kotovo sedlo past the bivouac where I fold the blankets and pick up some trash. Everything else without peculiarities. Nice regardsnasmeh
