Come on, tell now which fool walks from Vršič over Kotovo sedlo to Jalovec? Dean's answer was to Nenad's question.

Over Kotovo surely still some small snow traverse, how much you'll see yourself if you're there. Good luck

Also the path over Kotovo sedlo is dry, no snow anymore. Still snow under Ozebnika and a bit annoying traverse (ice axe) - where the marked path from Tamar goes over Jalovška škrbina. Good luck!

Jalovska col mandatory crampons, ice axe. 5m overhanging hard snow. If you're experienced [with] inventiveness or climbing III (with snow), then you don't need anything. From Tamar starting point

On Monday, 5.8.2019, early in the morning in peace and quiet, ascent to Jalovec from Vršič over Goličica past the permanently closed Ozebnik. To the summit, clouds helped by partially covering the scorching sun, pure walking 4h 45min. From the summit great view on peaks rising from the fog. Descent to Špička and to Trento - Hut at Soča source 3h 40min. Path over Goličica and descent to Špička seems more demanding to me than ascent to Jalovec summit itself. Some photos at

@branko.temlin... nicely described and even nicer shown in photo gallery. I've been to Jalovec already but via Kotovo sedlo. So I don't know this path. But I intend to go to Veliki Ozebnik which is along your described path. Since access to summit described as pathless, I'm curious if you noticed some path or mark along the path at which point to turn from marked path. Of course I recommend myself to other users who were on V. Ozebnik for some tip. Any info welcome.

No science, Nik! When you're there, you go up. Less than ten minutes where the path gets closest to the top.

Hello Branko. We would also go to Jalovec in the same direction as you. I'm interested if protection is needed, as I hear different explanations. And is it really so exposed and poorly protected over Goličica?

Self-protection is scarce, because there are few cables. What's secured are mostly pitons. Over Goličica there's quite some free climbing, not hard, but very exposed.

Hello. How demanding is the path from Jalovec to Mangart? I saw there's a path and I'd walk it with a buddy... if anyone has experience with it, thanks

Difficulty is not a problem, I haven't walked it yet and I'm asking about the route, marking or any advice on the path. Regards

I agree, especially exposed, one of the nicer ones for me

Because my lady wasn't satisfied with the ascent to Krn via Silva Koren path last Saturday, we decided to go to Jalovec this time. So yesterday morning, since the road to the hut in Tamar is closed, we started the path under Planinska Velikanka, continued past the mentioned hut and over Kotovo sedlo to conquer the summit. It was foggy all the time so no heat. For the descent we chose over the ridge to the shelter under Špica. From there we continued in a very sunny day to Vršič and from there past Slemenove špice back to Tamar and again on the road which dragged decently to Velikanka. Somewhere halfway from the shelter under Špica to Vršič I stepped on a viper which luckily didn't bite me, my partner just missed it. In short, we started in the morning at 8:20, back at the car at 10:30 pm. Regarding difficulty, the mountain deserves all respect. It's not a scare but a hint of caution which is very necessary. Which path is harder I'd be hard to decide. Maybe a tiny bit harder over Kotovo sedlo. Both paths were excellently marked, but caution is needed in fog.
