Jalovec

On Saturday visit to the king, who now has 2643 m elevation, at least on the stamp. Planica-Tamar-Kotovo sedlo-Jalovec-Shelter under Špička-Vršič. I always go down to Vršič, up to Kotovo sedlonasmeh Nice lively walk to fork of both paths on scree. Then ascent to Kotovo sedlo, sun already burning nicely. Before entering Jalovec wall sheep waiting to lick salt from me, towel and pole strapsjezik Then ascent up wall. Demanding as befits king - tons of scree, crumbly. Already after 15 min ascent clear to me I won't descend here, better choose proven best descent. Already quite some downward traffic on path. Top no cloud super view, light wind. Descent over ridge to Špička most acceptable to me. Praise to markers for very nice renovated markings/directions from Jalovec top to scree before Špička. Direction as much as possible on rock avoiding scree. On Špička earned beer, then lively walk to Vršič. At Vršič friendly three hikers pick me up to KG - thanks for ride then to Planica for car.

At 5:30 start in Planica via Dom Tamar to Kristal-Jalovec, at 10 at top no excessive visit, about fifteen of us changed in hour we spent on top. Up past bivouac over Kotovo sedlo to top, descent over Goličica and Jalovec notch back to Tamar or Planica. No peculiarities on path, aids in good condition snow no longer obstacle anywhere.

Yesterday to Jalovec from Zadnja Trenta up over Goličica down past Špička. Ascent on Goličica wall [in the] second part actually almost vertical[, protected only by pegs]. Steps [are] excellent[, pegs where they should be], but advise against [the] path for those with drop issues and not 100% sure-footed, every wrong step or slip fatal. Deep bow to all descending this path.

After [a] long time yesterday I also went to Jalovec in summer conditions. During [the] long hike [between] Planica and Tamar[, I was] constantly annoyed by [the] thought how our great lawmakers [and] regulators ensure Jalovec [will] long [remain a] not polished diamond. Who will go for it (from Tamar) when long wide asphalted road [is] forbidden fruit. All guides [and] signs say 6h from Tamar to top. In that time my old mom would get up if [she were] alive. Another laziness blow; no schnapps poured[, served in hut only after eight]. These people really see no further than [their] own nose....
As said[, shortly after seven (buffet closed)] start equipped [with] anti-sun [and] anti-dehydration [gear in a] nice cool morning. Almost no people on path[, seen from] empty Planica parking. Had really good feeling, decide not [to take the] marked path [to] Kotovo sedlo but cut right just below glacierette. [Let me] say suffering [in] steep scree comparable only [to] Friday pines [on] Križevnikvelik nasmeh Every thing passes so this too.nasmeh Shady climbing [pleasure] above saddle to top real pleasure again. Mention already [in the] start part two places path very risky (breakaways waiting [to] crash [into the] valley) till fixed[, stick to] winter approaches. Above quite few people as @stankoju described[, don't understand individuals who] preferred [to] freeze [in the] wind right [on] top instead [of in the] complete calm three steps lower. On descent visited unnamed neighbor crystal [that] rises 25m above trail. Deliberately [went] to bivouac[, as the] path rarely leads there (half sandwich [to] eat)mežikanje
After cold Schweppes [in] Tamar[, during the walk I] made complete plan how [it would be] if I had scissors and cloth...

Thanks, @panda. Pictures are unfortunately [of] more average quality, especially if the mountain isn't sufficiently sunlit.

Tomorrow I would very much like to set off for Jalovec with my wife. We chose the easiest variant with starting point at Vršič, from where we would start around 14:00 towards Zavetišče pod Špičkom, where we would overnight and the next day ascend to the summit, and return to the car. That's our plan, but we're afraid of tomorrow's weather. We browsed all websites with weather forecasts, which are very different, although those prevailing show nice weather tomorrow afternoon with one drop (next to the sun) around 18:00 in the evening.

Does anyone know the weather so well that they could advise us whether we should go on the mentioned tour or if it would be wiser to postpone it? We will be very grateful for a reply.

Given the stormy weather activity and high temperatures, the possibility of thunderstorms in the mountain world is not excluded. Precisely because of that, tours are usually started early and by the afternoon when they usually start to form thunderstorms you're already safe. Otherwise I hope you didn't look at weather forecast on hribi.netzavijanje z očmiwhich has nothing to do with weather. On ilmeteo tarvisio no precipitation is shown....mežikanje

Thanks for the reply. I hope someone else will chime in. I definitely agree with your thinking on when "tours are done", but Jalovec is so specific that I decided to do it in two days.

Why walk from Vršič, better from Trenta, those few hundred ascent meters are nothing compared to returning to Vršič. And that path is mostly in shade.

I quite agree, similar is my decision for the next Jalovec visit. To Vršič it drags like chicken guts and even uphill, kills morale

Norwegians are also quite reliable; they show no thunderstorms on Tuesday or Wednesday... https://www.yr.no/place/Slovenia/Other/Jalovec/hour_by_hour.html
For Italian Meteo I prefer forecast for Višarje or V Žlebeh (Monte Lussari, Sella Nevea).
Our Aladin shows precipitation near those areas from 14 to 17 tomorrow, Wednesday morning clear, then increasing cloudiness over the day, but no rain.

Regarding the starting point we can still reconsider of course. But I kindly ask for an answer about tomorrow's weather. Should we head out on the tour tomorrow or not?

Maks, you've set up the tour fine.
Path from Vršič to Špička is easy and, if rain catches you, you can walk calmly with umbrella or raincoat. Wet clothes you'll dry overnight in the hut.
Start the ascent to Jalovec the next day as early as possible, it'll be ok.

Maks, for yesterday the Saturday forecast for mountains was bad - but no rain anywhere, in Primorske and western Julijci even lots of sun. All previously mentioned forecasts messed up on that...
You'll have to decide yourself.
According to the current forecast, the safest is to be at the hut around noon, afternoon depending on conditions explore surroundings a bit e.g. climb to Škrbina behind Grad (marked), maybe from there to Mali Ozebnik (unmarked, harder). Next day early start to summit for nicer view.

Thanks everyone sincerely for replies and advice!

Wife gathered courage and called the meteorological station at Kredarica, where they advised against tomorrow's tour and suggested doing it on Wednesday and Thursday. That's what we'll do and start towards Špička on Wednesday instead of tomorrow.

And so you'll "waste" the best day of the week for the approach to Špička? On Thursday afternoon, thunderstorms are really forecast.
