Good day "elpadre", downhill everything went much easier overall, lighter backpack etc., uphill yeah I was like a "sherpa". Down burned 1387 cal. Definitely we'll meet at mountain marathon of 4 municipalities. Mountains will be often visited from my side (some more this year) so looking forward to next meeting. Nice regards and nice day. ps. true, downhill was a bit easier, but girls collected souvenirs i.e. "stones" guess who carried them, me.

Hi "Alpski Slovenc", on your 17th pic you caught us nicely chatting pleasantly on Triglav summit. These two Croats know every nook, valley, gully seen from Triglav, so I was a bit embarrassed that I was Slovene. Hats off. "Hribi-net" apparently not unknown to them, so if reading these lines really nice greet them wish safe steps ahead as all others. Lp

Hello "pohodni", somehow I try to document as much as possible when in mountains. Was very nice up at Kredarica, good company. Hats off to guys from Croatia, no doubt. As many such meetings as possible. lp

Despite the not too promising forecast today with man's best friend again to Kredarica. The Krma valley bottom is nicely white (at least the car is not dusty). Notable snow starts above Prgarca. Under the snow there is ice or very hard snow in places, so crampons are highly recommended ("don't mess around"). I saw the left passage was iced up (top of the winter route), so I chose the winter route instead of the summer one today. A bit of snow is still missing but it was interesting anyway. When it got steeper, I took the ice axe in one hand (ski pole in the other). To Kredarica just us two today, not counting the doggy. On the return I tested slip arrest with the ice axe twice (half serious, half fun). It was interesting; since I'm writing this, it succeeded. No one on Triglav for several days, if wind gusts like today then none tomorrow either.

Last km of road before parking is a real ice rink, so slowly. Footpath itself fully icy until the forest. Snow starts mid-bushes, more with every meter. To shepherd hut fine, then searched for path as not yet trodden, markers invisible. In last gully before Ržki podi snow knee-deep. Visibility down to 20 m, no path, so turned back. Still a nice trip.

@snork you're spot on. Not the first time, probably not the last either that I turned back before the summit. Turning back is just one more reason to come back again.

Igor briefly summed up Kugy's words: " It's not necessary to always reach some summit, you have to be content with what's achieved" and that's great wisdom. The summit always waits and with strong desire you can reach it sooner or later

A bit worried about avalanches, so I said let's go check it out, we'll see. At 6:20 in Krma only one car. The track was up to a bit below the shepherd's hut, where it turned right (somewhere towards Stanič????), then I was on my own up to halfway to Ulc summit or rather with help from man's best friend. It was sinking deep, even up to my ass. Then help came in form of a mountaineering buddy who took over most of the track-breaking to Kredarica. We went well below Rž, not too thrilled about the gully above because we'd have to break too much track. Better stick to the wind-scoured ribs that are sticking out in places. Only the traverse left to the summer path was a bit adrenaline - what if something slides? But it didn't. Snow mostly soft, surprised the wind didn't pack it into harder crust. Summit slope to Kredarica almost completely windblown, snow just traces, lots of old ice there. Today only four of us reached Kredarica, not counting the dog (half hour behind us two more tagged along our track). Views were fantastic all the way, such clear air and white snow you don't get every day. Below Vrh at the snow patch we spotted fresh rockfall under Kredarica or Rž summit (experts judge from pic), sure wouldn't wanna be there when it came down.

Bumslpepe, nicely written. We broke trail well, I think we'll meet like this more often Hope Tara wasn't too worn out (one more piece of chocolate left for her)

Yes, unforgettable impressions when in winter mountain scenery deep blue and snow white dominate. The rockfall on the fourth pic is unknown to me, though I've been up there several times this fall, but I think the wall belongs to Kredarica still. When I break trail in iffy conditions I go as vertical as possible right to the wall and only then left into the traverse.

hi, kinda tempted to spend a day at Kredarica in my old age. I'd go from Krma, in summer I once went up at night no problem... wonder if possible in winter with hiking gear and good fitness (of course if snow firm and track made). how long would it take in snow if 2:50h on dry. of course only if ideal conditions, thx for any feedback

Jannika - lots of debate about this under another title. In such ideal conditions as you mention, in winter you can get up faster than summer, because the track is usually more direct. But still pack crampons and ice axe in the rucksack.
