Igor is quite right! Just one frozen patch is enough to gain uncontrollable speed and we're already, as we say at home, in deep shit. Poles are just for steering like a rudder and absolutely nothing for helping with possible stopping. zmeden

Last year I slid down from Krn like this and not only there but elsewhere too, even with crampons, but only once with 12 teeth.

I don't know skorny, who could describe LG's antics in the mountains any other way. On top he posts wrong stuff on the forum that can be very dangerous if some naive random hiker-beginner tries it. If crampons grabbed at speed, you'd at least break legs and neck in such descent.

Hello,
on Wednesday we were on Krn from Kuhinja. Conditions are poor, snow is rotten. Sinking deeply all the time. Half the slope is already almost bare. More on http://graheljsblog.blogspot.com/2013/04/za-zakljucek-zime-na-krn.html

Today on Krn with skis on my back, but only uphill. Of course for the ascent I sought snow, as I took it directly up by the slope of adrenaline seekers. Walking was comfortable, on just right soft snow, so I didn't put on crampons. The whole way an annoying northerly blew. It was quite cold so the ski down on just right refrozen snow was excellent. I descended almost to pl. Kuhinja via gully under Batognica. Avalanche deposit with extended tongue allowed ski about 15 min. to planina.

Today on Krn from Lepena. Excellent snow conditions, finally frozen, super ski down.

The lake is slowly melting, for now it is still possible to cross it on skis.

On the summit also this year a large cornice.

To the lake, I think there'd be no problem, it's trampled enough, further on I think no chance without skis, especially with the thaw expected for the weekend.

Igor, many thanks for your reply. This route tempts me, because the hut will be open and Gomiščkovo shelter too, so I could get both stamps for transverzala.. but it looks like I have to wait for better conditions... nasmeh

I also headed to Krn from Kuhinja today. In the morning there was some hazy cloudiness, up to half the ascent it was bare, then you need to cross some snowfields. On the ridge it was quite windy, so the snow towards Gomišček shelter was partly hard and you had to be quite careful, but it goes without crampons. When I reached the shelter it cleared up, so I was rewarded on the summit with excellent views. Great day and beautiful tour.
