Has anyone been to Krn from Kuhinja recently? I'm interested in what the conditions are like for ski touring descent. Planning to ascend early Sunday morning. Is anything tracked (skied)? Probably hard (icy) in the morning? Thanks for any information.

Yesterday (7.3.) I was on Krn from Kuhinja. Tracked and skied. Hard in the morning but not icy, just right. Once the sun hits the snow softens quickly. Best to be at the summit by 9am.

I have one easy question. Has anyone from the forum hiked from Krn via Vrh nad Peski to the hut under Bogatin? For a normal hiker i.e. small group, approx how much time to reserve. Summer tour. Planning one, interested in that info. Thanks!

With photography and leisurely pace, my son and I took 6 hours from hut under Bogatin to Gomišček shelter via Peske. Cheers Matjaž PS: take plenty of fluids, almost no water up there.

This morning on Krn. Start from Planina Kuhinja, where peaks in clouds were visible. Thinking it might clear, headed to summit, but fog from ~1500m to top, only a few meters visibility. Occasionally windy, despite no views the summit was reached where big cornice was visible. Gear - crampons and ice axe mandatory.

Krn today you'd say everything is there: from dew, sun, snowing to fog; bit of each. Consolidated snow cover above pl Kuhinja starts somewhere above 1600m - or at Kožljak height. Views poorer at least for distant mountains. Few visitors - 10 including us.

I don't know what to write about the conditions, since you surely know the Krn plateau. I think the thickness of the snow cover towards the top is quite substantial, the snow itself is fairly hard and compacted, appropriate to the weather and time. Regarding equipment, there's nothing to discuss. Today's "snowing" was more for romance, as it's measured in mm. Otherwise, be careful at the top - cliffs are visible left and right of the summit. Good luck and steady steps.

K8, was under Krn today, due to strong wind - bora and due to last year's experience in bora and snow conditions I rather didn't risk it and went to Krasji vrh. If there wasn't such wind (I'm from Goriška so used to bora) conditions were dreamy. Check the photo on Krasji vrh forum.

Conditions since 16.04.14 have changed significantly, pictures you can check under Krasji vrh taken from Drežniška Raven. Forecast for holidays is poor, I follow weather forecast on this link, for our western part,

Yesterday, 30.4., I was on Krn. Mandatory winter gear. Solid snow starts around 1700m.

Krn and sunrise... super start of the month... As the previous one said, Krn is still winter, so winter gear is needed. Snow in the upper part of the mountain is quite hard.
