Hello!

On Friday we plan our first ascent to Krn from Drežnica (easy marked path). Rainy weather is forecast. How dangerous is this path in the rain? Risk of slipping? Thanks for the reply.

It's hard to answer this question. Any slip, anywhere, can be fatal.

Equally dangerous as if there is no rain. In both cases, an accident must not happen.

Hello!
At the beginning of August, my girlfriend and I plan to visit Krn. Starting point would be Planina Kuhinja and I'm interested in what equipment is needed. Thanks in advance nasmeh

If the weather is nice, then not much, standard equipment. The path is easy, zigzag, wide enough, for descent it's only annoying if it's very hot, as the path is without shade.

Has anyone gone to Krn from Planina Zaprikraj or Planina Zapleč? Via Krnčica? Yes, I know there's a description - but I'm interested in the current condition? How long does the path actually take?

The path from planina Zapleč is at least to Krnčica well marked. How it is further, I don't know, but last year the path from Krnska škrbina towards planina Zaprikraj looked freshly marked, so I assume the whole path is marked.
At planina Zapleč there are no direction signs, you follow the marks to Vrata. At this time high grass can be a problem, which in the lower part completely covers the mule track. At the end of the weekend there are usually some hikers going that way and if you're not too early, you'll see traces of predecessors in the grass. Up to Vrata in dry conditions is undemanding, further to Krnčica requires more attention on some shorter sections when the mule track narrows and climbs steep gullies.
Walking time: 4 hours from pl. Zapleč or 5 hours from the trough above Drežniške Ravne will be realistic for moderate hikers.

The path to Lopatnik, below which the path turns to Krnčica and Krn, is described on the link below: http://www.hribi.net/gora/lopatnik/1/2309

Has anyone been to Krn from Krnska jezera these days, are there still snow fields?
like
panda4. 08. 2014 15:10:24
I was there 23.7./24.7 from Lepena. You cross three snowfields. First right above the lake (when you cross to Planina na Polju - not problematic). Second snowfield halfway up, when you leave Planina na Polju (steep but can bypass on scree - tiring). Third snowfield in basin before junction (Krnska škrbina - Vrh nad Peski), can't avoid it - follow tracks - markings partly under snow - I tried right at edge - maybe footprints still visible). When starting ascent to Krnska škrbina no more snow. Snow will definitely stay, quite a bit there. Watch morning air temp if sleeping in shelter (if low, snow can be hard morning). Hope I helped. If need more info send PM. nasmeh

Krn on Friday, 08.08.2014. From Planina Kuhinja, a nice number of hikers headed to the summit early in the morning. Krn, in the summer heat, wraps itself in a cap of fog and clouds around 10am, so an early hour for admiring the views from the top is almost necessary.
But what, when there was so much beautiful flowers along the path that the summit arrival was just a side issue. The path from Planina Kuhinja is more or less tiring for me, but I try to make sense of it with nature admiration.
From the Krn top, I planned at least to Batognica then past the lake to Lužnica to the start, but the fog deterred me from continuing.

Suzana, nice pics, a bit ago I was on this path, I agree that on this somewhat boring path to Krn it's best to gaze at flowers and fragrant meadows... Since you had nice weather, it's really a shame you didn't jump to Batognica, as from the pics the fog was here and there, because Batognica was a real experience for me. Really unique mountain, access especially interesting and more than rewarded for the drag to Krn over pastures and meadows. Personally, rocky terrain much closer to me, except of course the flowers. Next time to the summit of Batognica! mežikanje

Zlatica, thanks. I am also a big fan of Batognica. Its beauties I have already described on the links below:

http://www.hribi.net/trenutnerazmere.asp?slo=1&gorovjeid=1&id=1031

On my descent to Krnska Škrbina the clouds slowly dispersed, but towards Lužnica they were still thick. Without sun no whiteness of shining Peski, which are the best view from Batognica for me.
Only when I reached Planina Slapnik did it clear behind Maselnik. Krn usually removes its cap only before evening to catch rays of the setting sun.

This weekend the Polžki went to Krn. Start from Lepena to the lake, then some to the summit, others to pl. Polje, each according to their abilities. Over Krn midday clouds were rolling so the view was more limited. Otherwise nice tour in nice nature. On Sunday back to the valley and some more wandering around Vršič and Kr.gora (crowded)eek

Given this summer's weather, I wonder if currently on the path to Krn (from the lakes up) one needs to cross any snow and if usual footwear (hiking boots) is safe enough. Thanks.
