Krn today.

Today first mountain this year. Krn was in the sun all day. Late again. At 9:20 I started hiking from Planina Kuhinja. And this time straight up the slab. Quite some snow. Met two mountaineers. They were already descending. They told me ideal conditions today. Because snow wasn't sinking on the slab. Crampons gripped well in that steepness. Another border guy went with dog, but towards saddle. And they turned back. Because it was icy there. Also from hut to summit icy in places. On descent I made steps with ice axe to hut. Three hours fifteen minutes I needed today. And hut surprisingly didn't move away.

I knew nothing about what the conditions were like

what the mountaineer told me, that I had chosen a nice day.

I will stay a little longer at the shelter

Thanks, zlatica. On the way I also visited part of Kožljak. When I arrived above planina Zaslap I had to decide where. And I went left. Quite some climbing in grass and snow before reaching the ridge. Before that I stowed the poles, put on crampons and helped myself with ice axe to climb to the ridge. Then just straight up the slab. Otherwise a track is made under Batognica. There much easier if someone goes. Go past planina Kašina straight. Then left on pastures. nasmeh

Today's Krn from planina Kuhinja. They're widening the road in Krn village. I was the only woman today on Krn. Three Germans and one Italian and Boštjan of course. I met him when he was already descending to the valley. I was just going up. Nice weather. Windy on the summit and the whole way. I'm used to it. From the summit the wind blew my glove towards the saddle. If someone finds it..... nasmeh

Otherwise, it was nice walking in the snow with winter gear. Up through the last part of Kožljak. Down the other side under Batognica.

didn't go to the top because it was blowing too much, but to the shelter

Beautiful day on Krn, started a bit late and went up the steep grasses where it is safest. Here I saw everyone looking for the safest passages. Above is the Krn cornice, the first one sank 20 cm, the others had steps. Winter gear is mandatory to the hut, underneath a bit harder. Wind only on the summit itself. Today about 6 walkers. Back under the cornice again via the safest passages.

Boštjan and Milan were there on Saturday. Snow not settled. Sank to knees. And windy. It was a nice day. nasmeh

Yesterday's ascent to Krn quite strenuous. Snow not settled yet and sinks. Wind quite strong, today even stronger. Very low temps forecast, so well dressed, well booted in mountains...

Today, Monday 26/02, snow conditions on Krn still quite good, below to diagonal start and on windpacked snow slight sinking, but to shelter no problem. Summit blowing hard.
