From what I've heard they are preparing. It's about time.

The helicopter has already flown, at least the shelter is partially stocked. The problem is more with repairing the water tank and upgrading the electrical system, which probably won't be done overnight. The other issue is the maintenance team, which is also questionable. For now we can only hope that PD NG members will take over the management of the shelter at least on weekends. That could work in current conditions, just need to find people and willingness.
Last weekend + holiday I expected the shelter open, but no one was there. Saturday was very busy, Sunday and Monday weather was bad, but even on Sunday a group of Americans slept in the winter room, expecting the hut to be open.
Last year there were complications from the start, but this year it looks even worse, unfortunately.

Not to mention how it is with the hut under Krn Kuhinja. It is operating but given the friendliness of last year's team it would be better if it was closed too.
Thanks

This year, as one hiker told me, he stopped at the hut on planina Kuhinja, where the maintenance couple is from Prlekija. They cook good goulash. And he was satisfied.

Krn 17.7. Yesterday I was there for the tenth time this year. Actually I planned via Korenova, but I wasn't sure how the weather would turn. Because in that metal stuff I really wouldn't want to be if there was thunder. Nice weather all day. I started hiking at 9:10. Didn't bother me. The day was long. From the parking lot on planina Kuhinja I went along the mulatjera. Met quite a few Czech hikers. At the top nice. Scenic. Lots of those decorative clouds that are the most beautiful and flowers. You completely forget you're alone. From the top of Krn I went to Batognica. The path leads past, actually above Lužniško jezero. There was still one snow patch, from under which water was flowing. Just right, if you run out, you can refill. The sun was scorching on the descent. I arrived at the parking lot a few minutes before 19:00, because on the way I also went to Rdeči rob when I was already down.

Darinka - this Krn is your home mountain (for me it's Golica). Tell me, by how much does the path to Krn extend if at planina Duplje I turn left and go past Šmohorji and Vrh nad peski over Prag - comparison with the path planina Duplje direct to Krnska škrbina. Thanks for the answer.

The shelter on Krn is not serviced. Winter room is available for those who want to stay overnight. I don't know anything else. Janez Novak, I usually go to Krn from the Kuhinja pasture. From the other side I wouldn't know how much walking there is. mežikanje But I'll definitely go from the other side sometime.

The path Janez mentions is about 2 hours longer than the one past Krn Lake. But more interesting as it follows remains of old mule tracks.
Recommend one up and the other down. nasmeh

Are you coming to the monument at Vrh nad Peski from Šmohorja then?

Darinka, all paths lead to Rome they said once - even roundabout. Otherwise from the top of Šmohorja you can continue to Vrh nad Peski directly along traces of Isonzo front line past 2110m? - Veliki Peski and along north slopes directly to the summit or cross to Prag....You've been to Šmohorji, the continuation is as plain as the palm of one's hand and fairly easy to cross.

Darinka, on that path Janez asks about you reach the monument - pyramid. From there continue right towards Batognica and Krn. To Vrh nad Peski ascend from the path on the right, usual approach.
For approach from Šmohorja @mirank said it all.

Thanks to both. nasmeh I've been thinking about this tour for a while. I hope it works out, just let the weather be nice. Mirank, I wasn't on the big Šmohor, only on the small one. The path from the small Šmohor shows where it goes. Otherwise the tour from Krn ones was very nice for me.

Hello,
For the path from Drežnica really need to start (553 m asl at primary school) so low or can park higher?
like
julika6. 08. 2018 13:33:14
You can park higher too, but the road is very narrow and usually in very poor condition. You gain only half an hour of walking.

Then we'll walk that extra half hour =)
