Good Lord! When we served in JLA, they asked us if we could fluently write and read Cyrillic? Most Slovenes answered no. They wrote in the file that we are semi-literate. When I read your posts I wonder who is semi-literate? Nebojs??? Lepenja?? Bil??? ETC... I know semi-literate advocates will show up again, to them I say only God can help them. Of course, if he wills.

Julius, it's not that bad, people make mistakes in a hurry. I'm not an advocate of semi-literates. If you're gonna argue, go to Piran for the bay ha ha.

Was anyone up there yesterday/today? What are the conditions? Best, Davor

Semi-literate, I'd say even worse; some can't even formulate a question for 2nd grade elementary school. Surely someone has been up there, but they didn't write anything because it's hard to give a sensible answer to such stupidly posed questions. Ask for the route, specify the starting point and where you want to go. Anyway, Krn is dry from the south side, from the lake there are snowfields. You surely have shoes for that, and the same goes for the others; crampons, ice axe, and helmet shouldn't be a problem either, as the snow freezes at night even if the temperature doesn't drop below zero. Currently, as I see from behind the computer, Krn is in fog. Also, hribi.net is not the only forum for mountains, so you need to click around some more.

Davor, today conditions were excellent. I started from Lepena. Above the lake there is quite a big snow patch; you can avoid it, but I went right over the snow because it was excellent for walking (no crampons). Planina na Polju is dry, then the whole way to the saddle is snow, but towards the top the path is dry again. On top, fog occasionally crept up from the Kobarid side, otherwise it was sunny. lp

Yes, there is still plenty of snow.

On this path yes, only the others are already quite dry; today there were lots of hikers on Krn. Planina Kuhinja-Krn path dry, also southern from Drežnica probably, at least so I heard on top. I think snow only on this path I took. Tomorrow nice weather so recommend Krn visit.

IgorZlodej and others, sorry for the poorly posed question. jure.deterding, thanks for the info. The Planina Kuhinja-Krn path was exactly what interested me.

Yesterday my girl and I headed to Krn from Lepena. From the lake onwards there's still quite some snow. Approximately two hours we waded. Winter gear not necessary, except gaiters if you don't want to get wet. At some spots need to be a bit more careful than if no snow. From the saddle between Krn and Batognica to top no more snow, as path runs on south side. Gomišček shelter renovating but hut operates anyway. Was very nice. Recommend

On Wednesday, June 9th, upon forecast of favorable weather for mountain visit I headed to Krn from Drežnica via climbing path. In valley clear morning, surrounding mountains shyly wrapped in fog. Hoping they clear up, I set off. Morning pleasantly fresh and conditions pleasant for hiking. When out of forest, cross snowfield reaching to wall entry. No winter gear needed, but caution against slip as snow packed and hard. Heard falling rocks on cliffs. Put on self-belay kit. Cables, pegs, ladder and staples excellent condition whole way. Quite some moisture and thus wet grass and trail so used upper limbs for safety too. Before shelter meet duty caretaker inviting to tea, but first to top where enjoy wrapped in thick fog, can't see even trail to Batognica. Nothing from hoped views, so tea and nice chat in hut followed. Fog escorts me also to valley towards Kuhinja. At junction to Drežnica finally peak shows for few moments. From there to Drežnica rather hot and clear.

Hi, Igor! Thanks for reminding me. Returning the question. Shall we arrange it just over the internet? I think there will be a crowd on Čistem vrh then, or rather at the starting point.

Gomišček shelter on Krn is in extensive renovation, therefore overnighting is not possible for the time being.

Yesterday, Krn was very visited. Nice weather, here and there fog crept in. To the top I went from Drežnica via Korenova path, which was very visited yesterday. Down I headed towards the lake and enjoyed the beautiful vista. At the lake, quite a few people were pleasantly sunbathing. Then descent to Lepena, where transport awaits. Really nice day.

Last fall - beginning of 10th month - I was on Krn, started from Planina Kuhinja and it was quite ok early autumn day trip, undemanding, only fog welcomed me on top and just few seconds through hole saw Krn lake from other side. Otherwise path from Lepena personally much nicer, but this shorter. Yesterday again headed to Krn from Planina Kuhinja, considering distance to start point (3.5 hours drive), arrived to start bit before 9:00. Although guide writes this side in summer extremely demanding due to sun, still went to top. Can say from personal experience really don't recommend such late start at these temps, as up to 1600 m a.s.l. completely exhausted. Literally grass was shining, and when inhaling felt like someone with hairdryer blowing hot air into mouth and nose. After 1600 m a.s.l. temp quite decent, but then already fairly worn out. On top was wonderful view, in my opinion from Krn one of nicest in Slo. Overall, bit less than 3 hours up, bit less than 1.5 down, break on top 15 min. All together 4.5 hours walk, but exhausted as if walked 12 hours. Think Krn next time in autumn or with sleep in hut and start at 5:00.

Hello! I'm planning a trip to Krn from Lepena on Saturday, and I'm interested in the path condition (snowfields). In the path description it says that early in summer especially towards Krnska škrbina snowfields can be present. Thanks and regards.
