Bobaje, I'd like to ask if you were in October with your pup (that was just like in the pic) on Ciprnik. If so, we met when you confirmed that the perfectly visible mountain was Grossglockner. Then we chatted and you said that both of you are rescuers. He didn't linger and soon headed down again, which the pup could hardly wait for.

Bonaje, I thought it was a collie because it's not grey at all, because Australians are usually fluffier than borders, right.... LP A.

Has anyone been around here this weekend? How far is the road to Vršič plowed? Regards

To the hut in the forest... But apparently they're plowing higher today too.

First-hand when we reached the hut in the forest we parked, as it wasn't cleared further (by the plow). Then on foot to Vršič and below the wall, left crampons there and into the couloir. Really hard snow, ice axe fully singing. Then through fog to the summit. It proved a good decision to descend on foot, as besides fog there was constant changing. A few meters crust, a few meters ice. The most critical is the upper part of Vratca. Then put on "ski crampons" and to Vršič (some bends super crust, some ice) and then through forest along the road, as they had already cleared most of the road Regards, Jaša

Today again at the scene of the crime (those who read my posts probably know why) this time with family member through the approach to the ridge, then assault on the summit, completely alone at the top, it was really late already , some of us just don't learn... What would I ramble on, descent from top through thicket let's say "could be better-but could be worse too... various snow types, crust, hard, icy, half-crusty... in short descent through thicket advise against , but the ridge so trampled you don't even need to kick turns, just carries you. Nice afternoon in good company, the approach still fantasy... Best, Juš&Grega

I'm wondering if winter ascent to Mala Mojstrovka is possible via summer path i.e. south path through Vratca pass and then along the ridge, or if only trodden through gullies in winter. Planning to go in the next days.

Of course it's possible to go via the south path. Well trodden. Of course with winter gear. Good luck!

Hi, has anyone maybe gone through Pripravniška gully these past hot days? Has the huge serac already rolled down with this warming or not? How about in Butinarjeva gully? Thanks for answers.

Well, I checked the conditions in the gully myself - wonderful! Of course with full winter gear. The serac is still there and will probably stay for some time, especially now that it will cool down a bit. It was hellishly hot though, especially on the descent on the south side and the snow melted quickly, even though I was already early (10am) on the way down... Butinarjeva though (from afar) also looks good! Safe steps to all.

Just from Butinarjeva, the slope of MM is covered with 10 cm new powder, but there were only some ski tracks visible, the rest we plowed when we went around 4pm up Butinarjevo. In the gully from powder to creaky snow, we climbed the left variant, with one super jump in between. If it blows there will be a cornice and no more super skiing! We three climbed it in one hour... Descended/skied over the ridge! Juš, Borut, Jože(still quite some sun we had)
