Today on Mali Mojstrovka via the usual path from Vršič. Currently to Mala Mojstrovka ice axe and crampons are not needed. To the Velika it's a bit different story. I tried to approach the Velika too, but turned back soon, as I had some old emergency strap-on crampons that don't fit my boot well at all, and the boot was leather (read soft) and the system as such simply wasn't "rigid" enough to overcome the last steep slope on hard and frozen snow. I just greeted it nicely and said: Next time!

On Hanzova path there are some small hard steep snow patches. The first starts right below the wall entry. Central part of the wall is snow-free, towards the last third of the path there are quite a few snow patches and sometimes the cable is under snow. So we put on crampons. Down on the south side where the path is dry as urbancek already said. Day was sunny but windy.

We were there yesterday. Conditions were interesting. Some snow patches still, but no special extra gear needed. Snow patches well passable. Weather wonderful, ascent very nice, descent too, scree not as nice as years ago but still deep enough at end for pleasure. Worth it. Nice greeting!

"Snow patches are well passable", they were. Such descriptions can be extremely misleading. With sudden cooling (supposed to happen tomorrow), those snow patches could be hard as concrete and deadly dangerous as such. Not everyone knows these were just current conditions that can change quickly.

I confirm what oybl says, the path is completely dry overall, except the first few meters under snow, but there's a trodden 'pathlet' to the fixed protection. At the entrance there's a sign from PD Jesenice saying the path is difficult due to snow patches but that's not (anymore) the case. Caution of course in place as always =) With my girl we enjoyed the path until we caught up with about 25 Austrian hikers going at a somewhat more 'Sunday' pace, luckily just below the summit...

We always thought it was positive and good motivation if we occasionally let our girls plan or choose the tour independently. And if the younger one chooses, we already know more or less what awaits us . It has to be as high as possible, with the best view, of course as high as possible by car, not too much driving to the start, not too much 'aimless' walking, but obligatorily as much as possible on pegs and chimneys.... And the tour to Little Mojstrovka via Hanzova is already a good approximation of that... And she chose it for yesterday, and we went... Why not, it's nice up there, only that "scree" descent is always a bit too much for us, but you have to accept it... :-)

In the morning from Vršič via southern path to Little Mojstrovka. Started from Poštarska hut, at summit already shortly after 6, completely alone, so enjoyed beautiful views for a while. Path without special features, on return to Vršič around 7.30 crowd already starting, promising quite busy weekend .
