Fleksarca - I didn't know about this Ajdov girl; actually, it's the first time I'm hearing about her. And thanks to Viharnik for the detailed description. LP

When you next drive by car on the road to Vršič, the face is clearly visible if you stop at the first bend (if I'm not mistaken) below the Russian chapel and observe for a couple of minutes.

Time to check out "our" mountains too. I drive to Vršič, not too early, hoping someone is ahead and the track is made. And indeed two are already up below Grebenc, one still scouting where best to go up. When I tell him I'll go straight up the slide (scree), he quickly prepares and straps on the board too. At first it goes well, little snow on the "scree", then more and more. I slowly plow up ahead, the young guy with the board behind. When I reach the tracks of predecessors, I see they went with skis, "smart", I don't want to make holes, so mostly on "solid". Above Grebenc it's a bit better, at least doesn't sink so much, higher up no problem anyway, since along the ridge upwards it's quite windblown. Somewhere in the middle of the "Mojstrove slabs" I meet "skiers", they say occasionally a bit of roboting. I go to the top, where it's quite cold pulling from the north, so I descend lower to the rocks, where I rest a bit, call Milan on Kredarca via radio, then back down. The young guy with the board apparently turned back below Grebenc. For hiking Mojstrovka is quite good, for skiing only for those who don't mind their skis.

This weekend I plan to go to Little Mojstrovka via South path, wondering if anyone has been up after last snowfall so I know roughly what awaits. LP

Conditions since my ascent haven't improved much, if anything they've worsened; Saturday will be windy and cold again, maybe even snowing.

If I'm right, not much snow and not yet suitable for skiing (don't want to ruin my skis), except probably above 2000 m a.s.l. where there's enough snow.

On Sunday skiing from Mala Mojstrovka to the car at Vršič was pleasant. Above was super hard crust, lower quasi powder or crust, below the saddle had to push a bit to avoid scratches. There were quite a few of us skiers.

Thanks for the info. I hope some more snow falls on Saturday and conditions will be even better.

Today's cold but wonderful day Iztok and I used for ski touring from Mala Mojstrovka. The ascent to the foot of Grebenc was pure torment. Tramping through windblown snow (up to 130 cm) took quite some strength from us, in the middle part and towards the top of Grebenc it went without trouble, as the base was slightly frozen and hard. From Grebenc to the top there's a nice track for both hikers and skiers. Pripravniška gully is traversed, tracks clearly visible in it. To the top quick progress along the windblown ridge. Little snow. The descent in the upper part offered surprisingly good skiing, a bit of traversing over junipers, but it went. In the gully under Grebenc some crust, but it goes. In the middle part starts swimming in deep powder all the way to the bottom. Whoever pities their skis should take them off, we didn't so we have nice memories of today's skiing (in our heads and on skis). It would be a shame not to make use of today's day. LP Andrej

On 28.12 I wanted to ski from M.Mojstrovka, but on the way I met a mountaineer who recommended that I rather go to Travnik (left of Big Mojstrovka). It was phenomenal. Nice powder. Excellent ski touring!

@Viharnik Wait a bit, as far as I know, the face of Ajdovska deklica is turned towards Krnica and not Trenta?

Žiga, you're embellishing it a bit. Ajdovska deklica looks across Vršič towards Trenta. Her nose is also depicted towards Trenta. If in doubt, go ask her sometime.

Viharnik... Žiga is quite right.... Ajdovska deklica is turned towards Krnica.. if you drive from the Trenta side you don't see her, but from the Kranjska Gora side you spot her towards the top if you're attentive....

Guys, don't argue Maybe it would be good to read the tale about Ajdovska deklica. You can find it in the book by Lojze Zupan, Dušica Kunaver and elsewhere. Or you can read it in my post: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/45082/ I think then there will be no doubt left where she is turned and where she looks. It is true that we see her also when driving from Kranjska Gora to Vršič.

Oh oh, that Trenta and those Trentarji. There, in that valley, (were) home to terrible wild hunters. There is home to original sin. From their hand fell goldhorn, and (probably) white chamois too ... Because of them actually petrified the Ajdovska girl. Only evil. Probably that's why, defending that evil, Vršič pass in winter mostly closed even today ... (But exception must be, Kranjska Gora folks gladly let sun through if it appears.) But, regardless of before, beautiful is Trenta and to me Ajdovska girl looks so dreamily there for that reason.

One more addition... Zlatorog is white chamois with golden horns...
