Wish fulfilled, Snežnik from Mašun in June. On Saturday six of us gathered, we walked the European footpath E6, well marked, which is essential in these forests. Some along the road, some ascents even quite steep, altogether marked 4 hours ascent. In this scorching heat the forest path fit perfectly, we spotted a roe deer, an owl, and bear tracks too. We were even a bit faster than estimated time, the sign surprised us, 20 min from Little Snežnik and 40 min to the top. Path through scrub to Little Snežnik steeper, then easier part and final ascent to the hut. Some go to Snežnik once and see Kvarner with islands, I first time this season, clear visibility but still no sea view. Saw Učka, towards Brkini, distant Nanos and Loška Valley. Snežnik really a botanical garden now, wonderful flowers, pogačice, alpine bellflower, svišč, kosmatinec, flax... Friend saw huge edelweiss here years ago but later, now haven't seen them yet. Total 21 km, 1200 m elevation, solid for such hot day. At Mašun inn full of retired saws, sculptures, obviously good food. Snežnik has right name, still snow, Sviščaki too, lots of marmots... nice hike.
