For me, at Pecol it's much nicer at the cheese dairy (drinks, food, cheese) than in Rifugio Brazza.

Otherwise, beer at Brazza is 4 euros. Not really ice cold Water 1/2 l for 2 euros. Frico 10 euros per portion etc.

Excellent, Bojan! This year with the group I did Montaž via Via Amalia and I know how demanding it is. Ceria-Merlone is really beautiful, though. I didn't do the whole thing, because I descended beforehand down the abandoned mulattiera to Krni Dol pasture and then by macadam back to the starting point on Pekol pasture. The bivouac on Špik nad Nosom impressed me. This year with the group I also did Viš via Anita Goitan - excellent climbing pleasure.

Yesterday to Montaž. First snow on screes, up via Pipanova and along the ridge to the summit. Excellent snow conditions. Descent via the route of ascent.

Yesterday to Montaž. First to Špik hude police, then over Cjanerico, then via Leva path and Pipanovo to Montaž summit. Descent via Pipanovo and Disteis back to Pecol. Excellent conditions with the use of winter gear.

On Wednesday we want to drive a bit into Italy (Pecol), somewhere below Montaž. Does anyone have some data from that end, what's the snow like, can you ski already quite from Sella Nevea,....

Check the Kanin webcam and it'll be quite clear to you. (shots from multiple locations) And one skis from the saddle V Žlebeh ever since the snow fell.

Today on the king of the Western Julian Alps - Montaz. From Planina Pecol to Škrbina peak of Strmali, then towards Bivouac Suringar and through Findenegg glacier to the summit. Markings on the path are quite good, and the path along Velika Polica from Torre Disteis is now secured with steel cables and fixed rope. Through the glacier the path is nicely laid out, plenty of holds and steps. The rock jump (fig. no.47 in the description) I overcame by taking off my backpack, pushing it up and climbing through the little chimney. Descended via Pipan ladder. It is damaged at the lower end. One steel cable is torn off, so you have to skip one peg. Overall a very nice tour, weather was ideal.

Early hour for undisturbed observation of the ibex herd was the right choice. Up through Findenegg glacier, return via Pipan ladder.

At the start of Velika polica there's a fixed rope instead of cable, further new cables, but I think it would be fine without them too, since the path is wide enough (see my post pic no.3).

Don't go there if you already miss the safety gear at the beginning. I think the most exposed part is quite a bit later.
