Hi. I headed towards Montaž yesterday but was intending the left path to Špik hudih polic, so I turned off already a bit before the ladder. Two shorter traverses over soft snow are in the last part before the first entry into the wall. Then there is quite a lot of snow right where the left path to Špik branches off. I can't tell you much further what is happening. Hope it helps someone with the decision. Lp Rok

I would climb to Montaž in the next few days via Via Amalia - does anyone know how it is with snow patches on this path? Do they hold late into summer, or is the path dry at that time?

I'd take the gear because that traverse up there can still have snow.

In the Findenegg glacier there shouldn't be any snow left (from a conversation with those who climbed up there from Pecol).

Drago, don't you need crampons?

From Pecol you don't need them. You cross three short snowfields with good footprints, above under the lojtrca you go left along the snow. How it is over Amalia I don't know, because I haven't been there lately. Before Suringar there might still be snow!?

Another one of my questions: is it possible to go through the Findenegg glacier alone and if you haven't been there before? And also - what is the height of the glacier from the bivouac to the ridge?

Everything is possible...From the bivouac to the ridge it's around 300m...in height...

So, regarding Findenegg - there's really no path, but it's reasonably well marked. Easier climbing, tons (but really tons) of scree. If all that doesn't bother you, then definitely - yes, you can go alone, happily. It's marked and you can't miss much.

Regarding scree, there's really no need to exaggerate There's scree, say, on Grauzarija, and direct descent from Cima Alta, and many other places. Montasio is a real little baby in that regard

Yesterday to Montasio from Pecola. Due to foggy weather I went the easier path via the ladder. On the summit ridge it was clear. No snow on the path anymore, most visitors were Slovenians. Next year via Findenegg.

Foggy weather on Wednesday took care that the ascent wasn't too hot, no crowds either, and the views were interesting in their own way.

Hi, thinking about visiting Montaž and wondering what is the recommended direction? Up via Pipan ladder and down via glacier or vice versa? Regards
