With colleagues & a colleague from eastern Slovenia we drive early in the morning towards Tarvisio. We cross the border and at +14C park at 1510m asl - Pecol.
As we ascend the scree road, on the way we decide to climb Montaz (Spik nad Policami 2754m asl) via Findenegger couloir, descend via ladder.
Marmots warn each other and whistling is all around above and among usvelik nasmeh. In the rocks we soon encounter lone chamois watching us from above and a herd even following us. The bivouac interior is rather neglected and smelly. Climbing poses no problems for us and the colleague really enjoys the climbing which doesn't exceed I. Only lots of piled-up scree to watch out for. At the summit we take quick photos and hurry along the ridge - black clouds. At the ladder we wait for the group climbing up. When they reach the top, we quickly descend one by one over the wall. When the end of the fixed ropes is reached, scree starts and we carefully climb down past numerous chamois. Follows descent on scree slope and dusty like millers we run to the meadows. Past stables and after 8 hours (+28C) at the starting point.
Then some participants swim in Lago di Rabello.

Today with colleague via Pipanova to Montaz. Morning still sunlit, afternoon fogged in. At the top collapsed cross, otherwise path without features...

In ideal weather today to Montaz from Pecol via Findenegger couloir up and ladder down. Path to summit newly marked (Italians didn't bother much with aesthetics). From summit to ladder very few marks and faded, from ladder new dots again. Path without features, should mention that on lower part of ladder one cable is torn and need to be careful.

Today we headed to Montaž. Initially we planned the normal path, but under the wall something told me to go left. And indeed we took the alpinistic Findenegg path. Wonderful path, as you become even more aware of the mountain's majesty. On the way Sergio from Brescia joined us, who likes visiting these places and knows them well. During the ascent one must of course always stay alert and careful, especially if someone ahead unwittingly triggers stones.....That happened to us today, but it ended well. We safely reached the summit and descent via Pipanova ladder wasn't difficult. Along the path you meet little chamois learning life with attentive moms.............really interesting to watch. Beautiful day that stays in memory.

Can anyone confirm the path over Findenegg glacier has no snow patches and no issues? The above post from 29.9. is telling, but there were some days of bad weather in between..

Hi, 4.10. there was some snow over the glacier, but no major issues. Sadly don't know current conditions.

Today up through Findenegg glacier. Descent via Lojtr then Levi to notch above Cjanerica, from where down to Brazza hut through upper gravelly, lower grassy valley.
Snow no issues anywhere, even so little you can't cool off. velik nasmeh

Yesterday I headed to the Pecol pasture, starting point for several nice tours, turnoff or road to Sella Nevea closed to cars. I assume due to recent storms.
If heading to Pecol, you need to hike 6km to the pasture.
Hope they fix it soon.

Today's Montaž. Start from Pecol and over Pipanovo to summit. Almost no snow to lojtra, up on ridge winter gear needed. Road to Pecol passable. Beautiful sunny day, almost windless at summit.

Real snow starts only at the scree, then hard crust, postholing and drifted snow all the way to the summit. The temperature yesterday was a warm -15 with wind from the ladder onwards. The path nothing special with proper gear and experience.

Very nice pictures! At what altitude does snow approximately start? Is 'Forca del Pallone' (Ita name for the saddle between 'Cima Verde' and 'Cima Terra Rossa') sufficiently snowy? Tomorrow I plan a walk to the saddle. Thanks
