Most visited trails in snowy conditions

It's already happening what turbo wrote yesterday, we can chat all winter how and what but we learned nothing, it didn't help. Three golden rules: we walk on paths that we know, we are properly instructed about moving in mountains in winter, we are informed about conditions, or prepared that conditions can be completely different from expected... I sign under Santi, and under "posvečene" (who thought of that)zmeden too. And sensibly in mountains it's winter!

I think there is too little education in the field of winter mountaineering.
Are there mountaineering schools or easy winter hiking courses.

Also GRZS could do avalanche safety days in December or January and not in March.
Definitely it would be necessary to implement winter mountaineering programs that would educate hikers to the extent that they can safely visit the mountains on non-mountaineering routes. This is missing.

Everyone can educate themselves independently, there is quite a lot of such literature. Since they are right on the shelf next to my computer, let me list their names: Zimski vzponi v slovenskih gorah/Vladimir Habjan, Proti vrhovom/Jani Bele, Skrivnosti nedotaknjenih strmin/Borut Črnivec and Andrej Terčelj, Vodniški učbenik/PZS, Sneg, led, plazovi/Pavle Šegula, Turni smuki/Miro Črnivec and Ciril Praček. Whoever studies all this and implements it in practice as well, will be able to safely visit the mountains and enjoy it too.

Do you think that "independent education" and knowledge of theory is enough for winter mountain visits?

I attended one of the winter courses, but we didn't experience more than stopping and searching with probe and shovel.

Of course reading books alone is not enough, that's why I wrote at the end that it is necessary to implement all that knowledge in practice. A lot of useful things can be learned from more experienced on joint trips, and a course doesn't hurt either. In short, a bit of everything. Of course as often as possible to the mountains, good condition, gaining experience, and it will be, of course not all at once, but over the years for sure.

Igor, many thanks for the forwarded literature!

Anyway, I appeal to societies to organize courses on time and adapt the difficulty to the wishes of the participants. If ambitions are too high, then direct people to mountaineering sections.

Since I'm a newbie I don't know where I could go in winter time that is not too dangerous, I was on Stol when there was still snow, and the path was easy trodden.. nothing to climb not too steep (via Žirovnica path). I go to Kališče over winter but I want more, where there is a path, where there are people,.. a bit higher

What Begunjščica, only if you were on Stol, which is bigger than Begunjščica... you can try, they are about the same size. You also have V. Kladivo Storžič, Vrtača

oakley_sf please don't talk nonsense. In winter you don't go to Begunjščica from the south side, it's extremely dangerous for slipping and avalanche-prone. Up to Robleka still, further it's already a lottery. In winter approach to Begunjščica from the N side, starting point Ljubelj, or Zelenica. The N side (over 90 degree routes) of Begunjščica is crisscrossed with gullies of various slopes and difficulties. What surprises me most is that you suggested Begunjščica to a newbie for a start?! Why not Vrtača right away?!
I advise you (timgalema) to start with some easier tour and then gradually increase the difficulty. The tours I'm going to write to you are for getting used to winter conditions. Of course I warmly advise you to attend some course on movement in winter conditions, get to know the equipment, dangers, movement technique etc...
for start super Dovška baba, Lipanski vrh, Mrežce, Viševnik, Debela peč... I'm sure someone else will add... otherwise if you search the forum a bit there's already a lot of it grins
What the predecessor suggested is not for a beginner, believe me.

Trupejevo poldne, Blegoš, Velika planina... Definitely NOT Vrtača, Begunjščica, Kladivo and Storžičzmeden

If she says she was on Stol when there was snow and wants higher, for higher I don't know any suitable just for walking. Regarding Begunjščica it's like this, for now no such winter with avalanche danger and slips (good weather on Saturday apparently), so I don't see why not via Roblekov dom??

"Since I'm a newbie I don't know where I could go in winter time"... that means in snowy conditions (by the way, not winter yet). Snow. Not this weekend though, when by the way it'll be white too. Stol is a stroll, easy snow tour, while Begunjščica is already very demanding snow tour, Vrtača already climbing ascent, Storžič very demanding snow tour. In winter don't walk the same paths as in dry conditions. Anyway...zmeden

No, I'll stick to your statement so I won't miss too much and advise wrongly; otherwise for this weekend Begunjščica is still suitable, I think not much snow.

timgalema in winter time you can't go wrong with Ratitovec via Razor, it's quickly trampled, weekends huge visits too. A bit more demanding Ratitovec from Soriska planina. If not skiing at least snowshoes recommended.

I suggest also Raduha from the south side, i.e. Loke.

oakley sf: better "pull back"..
To Begunjščica from Roblek I have hiked in snowy conditions, but later never recommended the same to anyone..
If you've hiked some, you know well that Matilda in winter can wait for you much lower somewhere. And if you think that now up there there is no winter because it is not yet here, then pull back and don't comment so that you maybe don't regret it too soon - when it is too late..
I don't want to have anyone on my conscience, even if only virtually. Why should I? Because this keyboard praise means so much to me, or what?
No hard feelings!! The matter is not to be taken lightly..
Regards h!!

Geolog79 is 100% right, don't advise a beginner a path where experienced turned back without proper gear, hello. Recommended course or together to the mountains with experienced mountaineer who masters snow movement and has proper gear! Quite a few of us started that way!

I misjudged, I admit, this is not for a beginner. It confused me a bit when she said she was on Stol in winter, I didn't read quite accurately. I apologize to timgalema.zadrega

Thanks, I'm thinking of some course first but would like to learn a bit more, interested where in which book I would get the most described and explained about:
• Types of snow avalanches and their characteristics
• Factors triggering snow avalanches
• Recognizing potentially dangerous areas
• Decision making and acting in the avalanche world
• Rescue in an avalanche accident
• use of ice axe
