Today in the forests of Mežakla I achieved my absolute record in collected mushrooms. 57 porcini (heaviest 1kg 300g, no worms!), sea of chanterelles, 27 morels (lost 5 or 6 on the way). I had a full basket (small one) and all bags rolling in my pockets, if I'd stuffed them into anorak too I couldn't transport on foot anymore. Worst is I don't eat them, so others will be happier. Can't photo them unfortunately as digital died, phone camera too poor, bet many would envy me.

Apparently there are already mushrooms on Pokljuka too.

Geppo, why not? Picked two, left rest for seed. Went on, found more nests. And always left two to three for seed. True, on clearing everyone picks all. In thicket under spruces it's different. There it's fairytale! These pics from such thicket you can't imagine. When looking for passages thru 2m spruces fell on knees before those golobaje.

Mate07, about practice and theory unfortunately we can't discuss, as on both sides obviously not on the same.. Practice of all seasoned mushroomers is such that mushrooms (specifically porcini) look among piles of old branches, under lying rotten trunks, by decaying stumps etc, as conditions for mycelium growth (white threads) best there. Maybe you've peeled off loose bark from rotten stump and noticed white thread weaves.. Fungi life is heterotrophic, thus dependent on other organisms or substances they as higher developed previously processed. So they don't grow like flowers, potatoes or apples; -in soil, but on dead (and living) plant parts. Maybe heard mushrooms besides thriving on organic waste often even parasites.. If you have woods so excellently cleaned as you boasted, probably don't know this practice.. Good luck picking mushrooms!

I thought I'd get more spit. My post was just a joke, though such things happen many places, seen with own eyes. I don't pick mushrooms, but if some "crazy" mushroomer gives me some I don't refuse. So those huge numbers I wrote still wait in the woods.

@heinz Branches piled up not scattered everywhere that's all re forest cleaning. Other matters advised by forest warden. Otherwise to me with almost 20 years experience picking mushrooms no one lectures, I know undergrowth where mushrooms grow, also weather, time, moon anyway many factors influence.. even smell them not porcini but scent of ideal conditions for picking....once went to uncle visit (to uncle forest road by car had window open on way smelled that mushroom scent, when arrived asked uncle if picking mushrooms and he said lots, so not wrong. Once last week went to another forest for mushrooms walked 3x more got only 3 porcini + 5 morels forest much less touched. Tomorrow again hunting for porcini.

Where there are spruces there are porcini too, that holds true.

Zalas, regarding photos I thought they grow everywhere already. Probably, you won't find them in this spruce forest ever again in such numbers as now. Lp

I like to pick young boletus most and not those old mushrooms.

"Where there are spruces there are boletus too that holds true." Mate, you've said enough, I believe you, staying without comment. Good luck!

@heinz believe it or not, mushroom grows in many places most often under spruce (remember Pokljuka) NNNNNOOOOORRRROOOO Today set record in one day Picked exactly 78 boletus, which is 20 less than last time. +7 morels 2x went to woods and barely brought back. This year ALREADY over 300 boletus.

Mate07 I opened this thread so we give some signals where mushrooms grow. You've missed the purpose of this post a bit or I made a mistake opening it!! Lp no hard feelings

Mate07 come on stuff those boletus somewhere already. You've filled 39 posts on this thread. We don't want to hear anything more about mushrooms or your woods, capisce?

Two years ago when I picked 120 kg of them and when I mentioned to someone that I picked that much he didn't believe me even though I picked that much.

Zippo you know it's true . Why doesn't the admin just lock this thread? This exaggeration isn't good for nature either and I really hope someone reports you and writes you a fine. I'm not a fool or anything but draw a line with your mushroom picking.
