On Sunday, a nice circular tour to Ojstrc (Obir). Starting point: saddle Šajda - Ojstrc - Eisenkappler Hütte (Kapelška koča) - Šajda. Path without special features, on the top at the time of our arrival there was fog, so unfortunately no views, but still nice. Recommend. Best regards.

Today on Ojstrc. From icy Železna kapla (-10 degrees) nicely to warm, as inversion again. Path is tidied, fallen trees removed, Agnes spring not frozen, quite a lot of visitors as road to Železenkapelska koča normally drivable. Weather cloudless and warm, light breeze only on top, view very nice - even Celovec and Vrbsko jezero completely clear. Very nice tour for end of year. Happy, healthy, successful and safe step into 2017 to all hikers, mountaineers, readers and editors of this forum. See you reading and writing. wink

Yesterday to Ojsterc from saddle Šajda. To saddle via Ljubelj. From there along nice marked path to fourth highest peak of Karavanke. Path 623 really beautiful - nothing steep. More than half in forest, then gently along ridgelet to the very top. Down via Kapelska koča to Slovenian inn Kovač and via Jezerski dom.

Is the road to the hut open?

There were lots of cars at the hut - I consider it open. I didn't see any prohibition. We didn't really ask. From the hut, then I think, an hour and a half to the top of Obir.

@Lunca

For years there has been a barrier on the road to the hut, toll 6€, must have coins!

Yes Turbo I know, but this year, when snow had already melted, we were there, but road was closed, machine covered with vinylwink That's why I'm asking.

Has anyone been to the summit recently? I'm interested if the path is trodden and if small crampons are enough? And is the road plowed to the hut or is the car left at Kurnikovo sedlo? I'll be grateful for any information.

Still plenty of snow, snowshoes needed more than crampons.

Železna Kapla - Obir
At the start some fallen trees, higher up good for walking under, at the spring quench thirst a bit. At the chapel snack. At the hut check if open. Then fresh snow starts. Snow max half meter. Lots of bare ground in between. Way back tracks, snack at hut. Then by road to Kurnikovo sedlo, from there old marked path to valley. Of course tracks, some asphalt in valley. Evening dinner at Kapelške toplice. Sunny pleasant day for hiking. Clock shows 26 km. What more could one wish for from a holiday day.

Friend, everything in perfect order, but it's nice to see the wider surroundings. Don't rush to drive the car as high as possible, then fiddle with the camera...... Best regards.

Such and similar things annoy me, also equipped paths; when they are made, praises pour in, then everything is left to itself.

On Wednesday I drove with my better half to the Šajda saddle, since I hadn't gone up this path to the summit yet and didn't this time either, because there was a sign at the start of the path that the path is closed 25.-28.6. We could have gone via the hut path, which is longer, but at the wish of my better half we drove to the hut and then to the summit, where she was for the first timesmile. The path is normally passable and currently full of flowers.

There are numerous paths to Obir from various directions all around. Many of them are also from the valley and even more inviting. On Tuesday I made a premiere ascent and descent from Podkanje village through Krtolovec, Hofman pasture and Kraguljše to the summit. Even though I wasn't early, the fog lingered for quite a while there at 1400-1800 m. But on top nice, warm sun with little wind and nice view. The path is solitary and interesting. There are quite a few fallen trees that prevented me from going up to Jagovčeva planina and Mali Obir.
