Primož, we met yesterday morning, you already at the car, I just starting. At the top, views more in Josip's style... fog around us otherwise this path from Topla is super and no excessive crowds. I recommend to all.

Yesterday 12.10. excursion to Peca. Start of the path in Topla valley at the mine and to Kneps saddle. Climbed to Končnik peak, later the path led me to Kordež head. Weather excellent, lots of people, path without special features, autumn colors not quite right yet but soon PICTURES and personal impressions from the path Regards! Tone

The two of us today, 19.10., didn't have such great visibility - at the top only a few meters - but still better than in the Julians, where it was pouring. From the climbing part, nice view into the sunny valley and we also got some rays. A bit below the saddle, we entered the cloud that sat on the top all day. It was blowing very hard. At some places it was pushing us around. Still lots of people. Judging by registrations, quite a few, like us, went east for the sun. Unfortunately no sun at the top. At the hut real hustle and bustle, lots of young families with several kids. Food and service excellent. Path to the hut poorly marked; we were in doubt several times where. Also through Črna to the start we had to ask. The path description was obviously written by someone who knows everything. Larches behaving unusually. Higher up some still fully green, elsewhere already yellow, lower down by the road already fully brown. (pictures later)

Peca was also in the sun yesterday 14.11, at least a few hours in the morning. At Mitnek it was still slightly foggy, around 1200 m the sun appeared. Towards the top of Peca the track was already made. Below the top it started blowing hard, fog patches flying in so I didn't linger too much at the top. When descending the tracks of four predecessors were already completely snowed over. Towards the top about 20-30 cm snow accumulated.

Today a bit differently to the top. From Topla to the second larger gully and then up it to the transverse hunting path. Along the hunting path to the right to the exit and then climbing to the top. We descended to Knips saddle and via "Knapovska" back to the car. In the gully there are two more demanding jumps, the most annoying is the entry into it from the marked path. Not much snow except when crossing to Knips saddle, so crampons and ice axe rested. Regards

For New Year's Eve on Peca from Topla via Kneps to Velika glava (took the spur) and Kordeževa glava and via Mala Peca down back to Topla. Austrian side is fully wintry, on our side quite a few bare sections.

Second day of the year again on Peca. This time from Mežica to the hut and then via the secured path to the top. Path is passable, there is snow but packed down, cables are snow-free, caution needed on exposed rock crossing - icy and on the exit at the traverse.

For holidays to Peca from Pristava and Topla. The walk from Pristava is dry in the first part, when we crossed the road at "S", the snow base started, we put on "spikes" at the saddle. Strong wind at the top. For safe and carefree steps it is good to have some footwear aid for ice and hard ground. From Topla up we went without crampons (down would be harder). Early morning, the path could be icy in places. We also did the circular variant here. To the hut with "spikes". Back to Topla without.

Peca today in the sun, below 2000 m quite warm, higher up cold due to the wind, path from the hut to the top mostly bare, in the upper part icy. Towards Kneps saddle well packed. But when you turn towards Kumr, it breaks through in many places and the snow cover is thicker too.

KUMER-PECA-PRISTAVA From Kumr there is not much snow for a while, with altitude the cover increases. To the forest line, one can walk normally without problems. Then it started breaking through wind-packed places. In between there are some hard bases where wind-blown snow. A partial solution also that we walked above the old path, which is under new snow. Drifted snow in places over half a meter, there it sank us over the knees. From Kneps saddle onwards one can walk well, but worse conditions than a week ago. Over Kordeževa glava we walked with spikes. At hut plus 7 in valley minus 4.

KUMER-KORDEŽEVA GLAVA At the foot not much new snow, and it becomes bare quickly. Winter scene appears above forest line, here first part of trail on sunny side and little snow, later the trail "hides" from the sun, there in drifts in places snow up to a meter. Peaks, ridges, saddles on south side icy and windblown. Otherwise today windy and cloudy weather.

I never seriously thought of going to Peca . From everywhere in views so far there on the horizon, not even its height over 2000 m particularly attracted me. But I knew one thing for sure, that if I ever go up there, it would surely be in winter time . One beautiful winter photo from its top imprinted in my memory (I think from a guidebook) and occasionally the thought struck me that it would be good to check once if it is really so beautiful up there. So I checked it on Saturday, on a beautiful sunny day when views were clear and boundless and limited in the distance only by snow-covered Austrian peaks. Grintovec, Julian Alps, Košuta ridge, Golte... all on the horizon, not even that far. Particularly excited me also the view of nearby Uršlja gora, which from Peca is especially attractive. And nearby peaks from the same range Končnikov vrh and Bistriška špica also drew looks, the špica especially . We did a circular tour and if deciding again, I would confirm this plan again. Up from Rudnik in Topla, down past Dom na Peci. Of course without visiting King Matjaž cave not done, but did not want to wake him, we were already hurrying to the valley as the day is still short, drive back long, around 2.5 hours from our end. But it is worth driving even to this area, we already made a plan for visit of other peaks, Bistriška špica and nearby Končnikov vrh . That it was a hike day on Saturday did not bother, as we walked most of the path completely alone, only the top had to share with others.
