Really nice that Janezs tries so hard to maintain the mountain trails. The trail from Topla to Peca over Knips is my favorite.

Today I chose Peca to go widen the mountain trail. Now, when the snow has almost completely melted, it showed how much debris was under the snow when I cleaned the trail in half-meter snow. My decision was to first clean it well, then continue towards the top. On Monday Leon helped me.

And yesterday I managed it. I set myself a quite demanding task. I had planned to realize it last fall, but the closure due to corona in Austria prevented it and I wasn't allowed across the border. Quietly I was also glad about that closure. Cleaning-expanding the trail from Kum direction to Kneps Saddle meant a big chunk for one person, quietly I hoped for help from Nejc, Štefan, also thought of Leon. Leon and Nejc joined for one day each. Yesterday Romana kept me company and diligently threw small branches off the path. I set off for Peca 14 times, worked in various conditions, started on a 40 cm thick hard snow base. Then that base softened and started melting. I was soaked to my knees and arms to elbows. I wrung out my gloves every hour. Then there were some days of work in fog, light drizzle, even snow. But there were also wonderful warm sunny days, like yesterday. On such nice days it was quite hard for me to stop and return to the valley. I also glued some markers, erected some new ones, some of that work remains, probably will wait for spring, or my passion won't let me rest and I'll do it this year, depending on weather. Why I did this at my own expense, "I move a lot on these paths and I'm not the type to just benefit, I'm ready to contribute something too". Anyway the path is widened for ten years. I cut through Kneps Saddle. Some small individual bushes remained, some long branch that two years ago stayed under snow and Nejc and I didn't see it. Also three pictures from yesterday

Yesterday from Podpeča to Peca. Trail without special features, but the wind spiced up the tour, providing snow spindrift and stability test . When I was at the top it even overturned the bench and finally tore off the flag. View in all its glory. In between where the wind blew away snow there are also bare parts of the trail.

What are the current conditions from Podpeča to Peca? Is the trail trodden, are crampons needed?

Even if I write the current conditions, some time will pass from my post to your visit, so the description won't be realistic. In the mountains conditions change quickly, shady spots, whether you're in the mountains in the morning or afternoon. Peca generally isn't a problematic mountain. To feel safe, take what you need. You know yourself best, how skillful you are, how often you drink and eat. How long tours you can do. In short, you know yourself best, so rely on yourself, not what someone writes. If you don't feel like carrying winter aids, stay where you don't need them. LP.

Thanks for the reply. Given my years I know a lot about myself, I wanted info about the track, because I really don't want to break trail and because of hard base. Otherwise I've been to Peca several times in winter. LP.

Ah again lecturing and a misguided answer to a perfectly short and concise question ... @Janezs if you followed the forum regularly you'd know @felix is an experienced mountaineer with lots of mileage... even if not... someone just doesn't want to break trail and asks only if the track is made... is it so hard to simply answer "track is there" or "no track"... or stay quiet if you don't know...

Today's conditions. Track is there, snow not hard, no crust either. On top quite windblown in some parts. Doable without problems with small crampons, or TODAY even without.

Thanks for info and pictures Domch. Very nice. If I'm free for the weekend and if the weather is nice too, I'll come now to our queen Peca. Haven't been on her for a long time.

Today from Mežica to Peca. I was glad that the group decided for such a starting point. The path was mostly icy under a thin layer of new snow. Without crampons we got quite high. The girl did the whole path up-down without crampons. The boys took them off on return at the hut, I persisted with them to the asphalt in Mežica. Nice sunny weather with lots of wind.

I wouldn't recommend the slope after the hut to anyone without anything. But everyone knows for themselves.

Hello What do you think, would it be ok on Sunday via the climbing route? Or not safe enough yet? Regards

Regarding what is it not safe enough? Avalanches, ice? With such a question I'd say better not go Good luck

Via climbing route now, in my opinion only for experienced mountaineers. Ice for sure. Good luck and safe to all.
