Planned removal of Aljaž Tower from Triglav

You know, I've stood on the top thirty times and we've done quite a few mountain baptisms at "our pride". Now I'm just waiting for someone to think of it and put a cross instead of the tower

The tower was also like this in the previous century. (if the dates aren't fooling me 28.10.1966)

Also for such events our grandchildren and descendants will be deprived. That little girl who was baptized in Aljaž Tower (8.8.1978) happily remembers the event!

Judging by the pics, they've already replaced it, the door opens on the other side, or maybe political parties are to blame: before left, now right opening, and the color is no longer reddish?

The picture from '66 is really good, but unfortunately it's mirrored. Probably the negative was flipped wrong during scanning - so left and right are swapped.

Žan, thanks for the info, since I'm not a photo expert I really thought they renovated it that way. As for the relocation, I can't believe they even thought of it. Still this year I must visit it with daughters who haven't been up yet so they don't miss it.

All that, dear ones, is completely wrong (excuse me) - serf thinking. We must change direction. So! We don't mourn something that hasn't happened yet, but wish and hope we'll succeed in preventing something opposite to national interest. Don't all rush to Triglav now to not miss anything, but rather ponder how to seriously resist this heartless capitalist (maybe even communist) dictatorial idea of removing the national symbol of All-Slovenianhood! Help ourselves or help Aljaž so his tower survives another tyranny and stays at the 'holy' place it was planned, made and hand-carried to. We know the purpose well. I think previous ruler, known mountaineer, wouldn't allow such thinking. Don't hit me over the head now! Think about who rules us.. Never before anyone said Aljaž Tower is in such bad state to 'conserve' it or put in museum lest it falls apart?????!!!!!!!! What about when after independence they cut off star and Slovenian workers handmade and attached new symbol or flag with year?? Who is the author of that part of our national symbol? Hey?? Do you think it's right those guys who created and attached the mentioned thing intending it stays there forever now stay silent like most of you calmly watching what some plan, or even like many now planning quickest ascent to Father to see the thing last time in its place and for which it was originally meant with great national feelings? No, that and all else simply must not and cannot stay hidden!! Are we then still a nation of serfs?? Help priest Aljaž then!!

Triglav is symbol of Slovenianhood and main holy place from which Slovenia arose. Aljaž Tower must stay where Jakob Aljaž put it! Monument of extraordinary importance to Slovenes from which we read how proudly, thoughtfully, fearlessly and incorruptibly Aljaž and others fought in such hard Germanic times to gain small property on Triglav top. This piece of Slovenian light was important milestone of Slovenia's formation, Slovenian word, customs and thus firm Slovenian awareness. When looking at old pics of my grandpa Stane b.1910 (mom's side) from 1935, it gives me chills that this tower will no longer be on top. How proud they stood up there. Then ascent to top was big feast, big deed for a person, reliving Aljaž times and feeling - today I am really Slovenian! Up there only true mountaineers (hillfolk) climbed then, few of them. Expensive shoes, not all dared to walk in mountains. Then only few stepped on its top. PRESERVE IT!

Both pics are with ice axe, since Stanko didn't need it at all...

Good observers you are! One picture is really mirrored, that's why they are not in the same reply. lp

And yet another comparison with Viharnik's grandfather. Only that it's approx. 30 years younger.

What kind of cameras are you using, jerks? The symbol of Slovenian identity isn't the Aljažev tower, but Triglav! The Aljažev tower is a tin monument, so rust will corrode it sooner or later. And I'd rather see a nice copy up there than a rusty barrel full of holes. But I agree that for now the time for replacement hasn't come yet...

I think that for now it's only necessary to change the PZS leadership and nothing else, and the issue will be resolved.

Changing the leadership is necessary anyway. Let's hope that the delegates will vote with their own heads when the time comes and of course - that a capable counter-candidate will be found, young and dynamic who will have a vision of how to lead PZS in the present and not in the past. I have no opinion for or against the tower. But the last serajko picture is a textbook example of "mountaineering culture" and preservation of "holy Slovenian heritage". - With a cigarette and sweat-stained ass on Aljažev's head. Disgusting

With that cigarette, one must consider the time when the picture was taken. Smoking today is considered a negative and undesirable habit, but it wasn't always like that. Just think of the famous Piparje, who with their smoking reached not only high peaks, but also history and even postage stamps.

I too am against the removal of the tower. I would like to see it and touch it on top of Triglav. I hope I succeed next year.

Birch, hoping is no sin. But those pricks from PZS, read Ekar, plan to "clean it up" already this year. If they succeed, which I strongly doubt, you'll go to the museum in slippers and "pet it nicely" ?!?

The Aljažev tower must stay where it was placed. If its purpose wasn't to be on top of Triglav, it would have been placed in the middle of Ljubljana. Those who want it in a museum should rather retire themselves and leave the work and thinking to the younger ones. It really affects some older people's brains.
