Janezs - would it be possible to ski from the top via Durce to Grohot?

Krištof K. - north side is Carinthia???

From Bukovnik to Grohot and Durc is the Carinthian side yes. Maybe thought of the path from Luč to Loka and up and the path from Solčava past the snow cave and to the top. Climbing path to Raduha from Pece looks quite snowy and frozen so no joke there now.

As far as I know, the old border between Carinthia and Styria runs somewhere in the Raduha area. Otherwise I think nowadays Raduha is actually not counted under Carinthia, but Carinthians have taken it as their own.

If anyone else is interested, the hut at Grohot and Raduha has always been in Styria! Path from Grohot to the top is however icy and dangerous. From direction of hut at Loki it's nicely trodden and safe.mežikanje

Today I visited Raduha with a friend.
Parked at Radušnik and hop up the hill. To hut at Loki no special features, further with crampons. Namely under loose snow is nasty ice and it goes better with crampons.
At top no cloud and no wind. We descended to Durc, then cheerfully to hut at Loki on crust. No track of course.....but now there is.
Rest at hut and back to valley.
As so many times, Raduha didn't disappoint today either.

I'm interested in the road conditions to the hut at Loki. Thanks

Yesterday I was on Raduha. Road to traffic ban sign towards Hut at Loki at end of asphalt dry and normally drivable. To hut up to twenty cm dry powder, from hut breaks through at places but goes great to top.
Great weather, for better impression some pics.

Does anyone have info on how it is from the Bukovnik direction via Durce?

Yesterday when I was on Raduha via Loka, we all approached from that side and it wasn't visible that anyone had made a track over Durce in the last days. l.p.

Izidor, I wouldn't want to be smart, but in such conditions as on Saturday (16°C) I already lost a friend right on the slope below Durce. A month ago I was there and there's plenty of unprocessed snow on the north side... I advise against!

22.2 on Wednesday we wanted to go over Durce, but without snowshoes impossible. We trampled a bit further from the mountain hut.

Today we were up there from Loka. Conditions not really wintery, even on top mostly dry, but in between through forest above hut up to half meter snow in places and if you miss the firm track you're quickly knee-deep. And slush still freezing.

Track also to Durce, met a guy with touring skis from Grohat who said more snow on that side, quite softened though, caution still advised.

Was anyone maybe on Raduha today? Is the road to parking under Loka already passable?
like
hermit10. 03. 2012 23:06:19
Today road not yet passable or rather passable to about 4 km before parking under Loka. And anyway big caution needed, as some sections quite icy.

Otherwise today I did a loop via Planina Arta to top and back via Loka to start. Snow not sinking, met no one, not even on top. From Planina Arta best follow frozen footprints, from Loka to top there's a partly icy track.

12.03.2012 From Loka to Raduha, then over Grohat to Bukovnik. At Loka put on crampons, didn't want to lose strength on slips. Path well frozen, not icy, rocks well covered with snow, I like it like that, like in summer. On section to Durce leave packs and head to top. Very strong wind accompanies us whole way, on top hard to stand on edge. Stefan does stats, some shots and return. On way pick up packs. On path see not many people go to Durce. To Grohat on new made path, partly already dry, some places over meter snow, above traverse to Durce dry, lower snow cover thicker. Here quite some tracks from skiers and hikers, some their own routes up or down. We also chose direction not too soft or too hard. Past rescue narrow track. We to Bukovnik for ordered meal. Lp

On Saturday I plan to head to Raduha over Durce, can someone give info if any special features to watch for and what the path is like, from Janezs pictures I noticed passage over Durce almost completely dry... thanks.

Izidor2, just be brave. On Monday conditions were such that I'd go up and down multiple times. Until Saturday (from Monday) it's still far. By then it can be completely different, adapt and consider the actual conditions that will be on the trail then. Lp.
