A bit late: On Wednesday 20.1.2010 I was on Ratitovec. Start in Zalem Log then to Povden and to the top. Weather excellent. From Zalem Log to Groblje (to the ''barn'') well trodden and also icy in places (the steepness at the beginning is really ''killer'' and doesn''t let up almost to Povden ), further to Povden less trodden, from there to the top again ok. At least for the initial and final part of the path I recommend small crampons!

And some quite fresh (still hot) The path is today passable even without crampons. It was cold though and some wind. Visitors barely a handful.

From Prtovč over Razor today: Path completely trodden, lots of visitors, hut open, sun up top, fog below (lower). Crampons unnecessary. No avalanche danger. Over Po(v)den apparently from Prtovč currently no one is going. Otherwise there was almost a crowd on the path in both directions. Especially in the hut. Whoever is from upper Gorenjska end, better drive via Kropa, Jamnik and Dražgoše, where it''s a bit closer. Lp heinz!

Hi, This weekend I would go to Ratitovec and I'm interested how it is with avalanche conditions on the path over Razor. Where on this path are the exposed parts? Thanks

badubadu The path over Razor on the standard route usually isn't avalanche-prone except at two places, "where it has already slid this year". Dangerous spots are soon after the junction to the hunting hut. Dangerous after new fallen snow, otherwise quickly trodden. Nice hike I wish you!

The path to Ratitovec over Razor is definitely avalanche-prone with new snow in winter or spring at ground, hardened avalanches. In Razor above the plateau, when we bite into the steep part, on two slopes left in the forest, it readily avalanches. Avalanche-prone is also the entire road over L.K towards the snowfields and Pl.Klom, which crosses the slope of Kosmatega vrh. Path over Povden is often icy but late spring fairly safe from avalanches. I think now, when daytime positive temperature a few days ago already rose to around 1800m and snow has refrozen, chance for avalanches to that height is small. Nice path and good luck!.

hi, if anyone was on ratitovec today, please write something about conditions and which path they took. which path do you recommend (asking more informatively, as a lot depends on tomorrow's weather )

Today my colleague and I did a quick ascent via Razor to Gladki vrh. The gaze often strayed to the left side above the path, about which something is already written above (avalanche terrain). From the right there were some fresh traces of small spontaneous sliding, which doesn't reach the path. The path is well trodden, annoying on the path only that all "poles" made for ascent are simply slippery. For the descent we waited a bit and it was a good decision, as we skied to Prtovč in slightly settled snow which allowed solid skiing. LP Andrej

Today at Ratitovec summit sunshine, although poorer views on other peaks, walk along individual peaks, Gladki vrh and Altemaver reminds me of Olševa, also spring crocus started blooming, from snowdrops, white saffron. On path via Razor still quite some snow, interesting rush of hikers to valley, path via Povden almost entirely bare.

Yesterday we did a substantial tour along Ratitovec peaks. Started at hunting hut at Prtovč, continued to Jesenovec and from there to Kosmati vrh. Followed descent to Vratca and ascent to Gladki vrh and to hut, first longer break there. From hut via Altemaver, Kremant and Kačji rob to Danjarska planina. Then via Mišji grund down to Spodnje Danje, hid from small shower there. Then ascent to Zg. Danje and along road past Zabrd and Torka to Povden saddle (Poden). From there just descent to Prtovč. Altogether over 9 hours, walking about 7.5 hours. Path from Povden to Prtovč recently dug for power cable laying and extremely muddy when wet. Otherwise nice tour with exceptional views. In hot weather quite demanding. On Danjarska planina large herd of horses grazing.
