On Monday on Razor. Tour: Vrata-Bivak 4 (Czech embassy)-Križ-Kriški podi-Razor-Pogačnikov dom-Sovatna-Vrata. Weather cloudless all day, of course exceptions - Dolkova špica and Škrlatica wrapped in cloud for 2 hrs. Views very nice. Heat only first part to Bivak 4, then bearable even to Sedlo Planja, not especially hot. On Razor alone on top awhile, then visitors. Then to Pogačnikov dom well visited and on to Sovatna where ibex awaited me grazing, down valley accompanied by chamois.

Today circular tour: Vršič - Razor - Planja - Pogačnikov dom - Zadnjica - return to Vršič by bus from Trenta. From Vršič side morning no visitors, many from Kriški podi. Also hop to Planja. Really wonderful day, ideal for mountaineering.

Vrata valley was our start for ascent to Pogačnikov dom on Kriški podi, reserved lodging there. Still in pitch dark first to bivouac on Rušju, from there to lesser known peak - Gubno. As only peak around sunlit, took longer break. Then up to Križ, great viewpoint in nice weather. Followed descent to Pogačnikov dom on Kriški podi, refueled. Afternoon weather totally spoiled, so ended ascents and soon to bed. Next day early morning to Razor, just below summit sunrise. Views exceptional. On descent decided also up Planja, neighbor to Razor. Then descent to lodging, and up Bovški Gamsovec, then over Luknja to start - Vrata.

Matevž, your photos never disappoint. Again a nice batch, the sunlit Razor reminds me of Ayers Rock in distant Australia. Bullseye! Super. I wish you many more beautiful mountains!velik nasmehnasmeh

I start the trail at the 29th bend of the Vršič road, then first to Kranjska planina and onwards to the junction with the marked trail Vršič-Kriški podi. I continue a bit up, then down again and so on to Mlinarica, which is still completely dry. In the Razor wall I see some "wet snow lumps" and hope there won't be too much glass ice on the trail itself. If too dangerous, I'll of course turn back.

Before entering the wall, I equip properly. At first hardly any snow, then sections completely dry, don't remove crampons, but carefully onwards. The large approach ledge is also half dry, then snow starts, hard, frozen, excellent for crampons and ice axe. Of course windy, but still within tolerable limits. When I reach the saddle under Razor, the view opens straight to Triglav, and the wind has somehow vanished here. I go up towards it, but for the start only to the cave, which is more than suitable for short rest and snack.

Then I scramble through nice gully to the notch, traverse left under rock overhangs. Secured part doesn't tempt me, I go on the old path framework and climb to the top.

Descend the ascent path.

In good faith that the poles' owners descended to the other valley a few days ago, I picked up the poles behind the icefall. Owners contact ZS.

Yesterday visited Razor first time since new path made to it.
Secured part under summit very much resembles entry part of path through Mala Rinka wall in Turski žleb. SVK recommended, some even without, but still...
On return also to Planja and Križ and past the fourth to valley.
Quite a few visits to these ends, mostly foreigners ( read Czechs ). mežikanje

With my older son we went on Tuesday from Vrata over Sovatna to Kriške pode to sleep, yesterday to Razor and back the same way to Vrata.
In Sovatna there is pleasant shade in the afternoon, so during ascent and descent we were mostly in shadejezik.
About the last five minutes of the climbing part we had already talked at home, so I went to the top alone, as I think this part is the hardest detail on SPP and for kids who do not really train climbing, three pegs are missing so they could normally reach the top and of course descend from it.
Otherwise since my visit last month there were about 300 new entries, yesterday till noon 5, so really no crowd here.
We spent two nice days in the heart of our mountains, our section leader added two new stamps to his SPP collection, three more...mežikanje

Last time I was on Razor must have been at least ten years ago, so I hadn't seen that bypass with cables just below the summit on the left side of the peak. From Vrata we went via Sovatna. After a break at Pogačnik hut on Kriški podi then towards Razor. It's a long tour. Already to the hut you have almost four hours in your legs. To Razor summit another two hours. You spend quite some time trudging annoying scree fields. I already knew the old cables from before. I never noticed that karst cave below the summit. A pleasantly cool air was blowing out. My buddy even climbed a bit inside and brought ice. Then along the left edge of the brown scree - there's full of soil - upwards. Soon the red lines direct you to the left side and suddenly you reach the secured path. Here for ordinary hikers a problem appears. Climbing over cables is extremely demanding. Safety gear is mandatory. This mini ferrata isn't long - but demanding. We put on helmets already at the hut. Climbing gloves are also recommended. There's one overhanging detail where you lean out a bit, then soon a cable switch where you need long step and long arms. At the top all effort is rewarded. Yesterday the view was phenomenal. All surrounding peaks you had at arm's reach. Then follows descent down the cables, which is even more tedious than ascent upwards. To inexperienced I recommend belay and guidance of experienced. In my opinion many don't see the summit because of this cable insert below the summit.
Yesterday at six a.m. our father greets you like this.1
It's already sunny.2

Velkavrh... Realistically written, as you said, for ordinary hikers.
Anecdote from last year. When I got to the entrance of that climbing part at the end, the four ahead of me were still preparing harnesses and let me go first. I was at the top three quarters of an hour, but none from below reached the top... obviously turned back.

It's true. We met some hikers to Razor on the way down and all were curious how that secured part before the summit looks. We presented them the realistic picture and said without safety gear it won't go.
