I sent an email inquiry about trail conditions to the staff at Pogačnikov dom, and they replied quickly: Hi, you can nicely bypass the snowfield via Sovatna and reach the top without winter gear. Winter gear is still recommended for Razor; there's still a snowfield on Stenar too. Planja, Križ and Bovški Gamsovec are snow-free. Best regards, Maša One more thing: since we want to be eco-friendly, we ask that you bring your own sheet or sleeping bag. Thanks!

Thanks Mado! I'm going with friends next Saturday (14.07), hope there won't be any more snow by then... Of course, an update on conditions is more than welcome!

That snowfield on Stenar can be nicely crossed with a bit of caution without gear. For Križ via Kriška stena, at the entrance to it there's a snowfield requiring crampons. Trail Vršič - Planja saddle: some non-problematic snowfields and one crossable with caution without gear.

Razor conquered! From Zadnjica to Pogačnikov dom no snowfields... From hut to Planja saddle no snowfields. Ten minutes past the saddle one snowfield by a small cliff seems impassable without winter gear, but can be crossed without much problem... Summit part via ladders fantastic... and extremely demanding...

Marko, fix your profile, as it contains disinformation about your highest summited peak.

Now probably winter gear is needed or something? Because from this here I didn't quite get it ....which seems impassable without winter gear, but it can be crossed without some problem Thanks

I think it's meant that from a distance it looks impassable without gear, in reality, so when you get to it, it's passable without trouble.

I was up there yesterday. From Pogačnik hut onwards there were three snowfields. Two can be very easily bypassed. At that one higher up before the "cave", there could be trouble only for the first few steps on the left side if the snow is frozen. Further on, it can be bypassed on the upper side.

As I said - need to get a meter to snowfield and then see gap between snow and rock... From distance looks like impassable, when approach it's possible... Once again, Razor is super thing and recommend it!

On the path from Razor towards Prisank or Vršič there are no snow patches.

From Vršič to Razor and further to Kriški podi and to Vrata via Sovatna the path is in order. Protections and cables are in place, except from the Vršič side to Planja saddle one piton is pulled out, but it is not crucial.

Since I prefer to hike vertically rather than horizontally in the mountains, yesterday I started up from Vrata. Unbelievable. This time I almost drove to the doorstep of the hut, which hasn't happened to me for almost 40 years. At the junction for Sovatna there's a sign saying 4 hours to Pogačnik Hut. I think the stated time is just a bit exaggerated. At the hut I had bad luck again. On arrival, when I wanted tea, they were washing up, on departure, when I wanted beans, I learned that they were very spicy. Oh well. Up there I saved money again The path is without special features, interesting that in the morning at the spring it was still trickling a bit, in the afternoon just dripping. I think it would make sense to have a larger panel at the hut (or before it) warning about the changed approach to Razor summit, since many don't know about the rockfall, although it's been like that for several years. I also jumped to Planja, from the ridge also to its SW summit, since in my opinion the official height data on maps are not relevant.
